Few Million? Last I looked there were less then 130 k gas stations.. .they are like an endangered species in Detroit.

Texas and California choose ...CHOOSE TO NOT BUILD CONVENTIONAL POWER PLANTS . TEXAS went big on renewables....but ..after last winter. Maybe some sense will prevail in Texas.

California....they are fawked.

They choose to not manage their water and woods....to the benefit of humans.
I said a few million because I expect everyone will have a charging station at their house and slow charge overnight.

Aye.

Which will radically reduce capacity issues. And raise profits for expansion.

Expansion for pipelines to the new eco friendly electricity producing gas plants....

But we are still in upside down world. So ..maybe it is hopelessly lost.

Electricity is cheaper at night

If your charging at night. A road going machine ...they can ass rape tax your ass.

Winnie win win....

Maybe big Gretchen will realize she is a POS ...and actually become a patriot and jump in a woodchipper from shame.....to atone for atrocity.

Or maybe not

Well Michigan charges 17.7% Tax per gallon on gasoline, average $.42/gallon
So $8.40 on a 20gal fill up
For every car in Michigan every time they fill up, that's some good money

That money will NEED TO BE recouped in some manner if enough people switch to electric vehicles, the State will not just say "Oh well", lol

Currently when you register an electric vehicle in Michigan you pay an extra $100 over base registration fee
So tax equivalent to about 12 Fill ups on gasoline(20gal)

Michigan taxes residential electricity at 4%
Average home electrical cost in Michigan is $100/month
So about $4 a month in tax, about 10gal gasoline tax per month 6 more fill ups

So current taxes on electric vehicle is same as 18 fill ups a year, or 360gal of gas, @ 25MPG = 9,000 miles
I would expect electric bill to go up with home charger
And there will most likely be a higher tax rate at fast chargers since Michigan is offering rebates on cost to install these in public areas

So at this time if you drive locally more than 9,000 miles, you would be avoiding some tax
Didn't count the avoided tax on oil, coolant or other fluids :)

A Tesla charging station needs a 70 amp service, running that all night will definitely raise the power bill and if most everyone is doing it the rates will go up.
We've been using tax money to subsidize people buying electric cars that use the highways but don't pay any gas taxes to maintain the roads. More thought needs to go to upgrading the power grids, including increasing power generation before we commit to all electric cars. The Southern states can do more with solar than we can, we could do more with wind and nuclear is a good option as long as the lowest bidder doesn't build the power plant. My area has run into a NIMBY problem, my town passed an ordinance against large wind farms because they "degrade the natural beauty" of the mountains. We don't have zoning laws to control what can be done on private property. When power lines were run in the early 1900's the Rockefeller who owned the Woodstock(Vt) Inn so hated the looks of them he paid to bury them. I don't even notice power lines or telephone poles unless someone runs into one, they're just part of the background. The owner of an unbuildable lot in the next town was going to put in a solar farm until the neighbors across the street objected so he moved it to my town and built it in the field behind the hardware store. It adds to our tax base, generates power, doesn't make noise or produce smoke, and doesn't call the cops or send kids to our schools. I don't see a negative.

Think about this for a minute:
How many coal-fired power plants are there in the world today?

The EU has 468 - & building 27 more... Total 495,
Turkey has 56 - & building 93 more... Total 149,

South Africa has 79 - & building 24 more... Total 103,
India has 589 - & building 446 more... Total 1035,
Philippines has 19 - & building 60 more... Total 79,
South Korea has 58 - & building 26 more... Total 84,
Japan has 90 - & building 45 more... Total 135,

China has 2,363 - & building 1,171 more... Total = 3,534.

That’s 5,615 projected coal powered plants in just 8 countries.

USA has 15 - & building 0 more... Total = 15.

This is EXCELLENT!! I knew the rough idea about the number of coal plants, but had not yet seen actual numbers until now.

This makes the point. Whatever the USA does or doesn’t do won’t make a Tinker’s Dam regarding CO2 unless the rest of the world, especially China and India reduce their coal-fired power plants as well.

Those numbers seen very wrong... especially considering I can throw a rock in any direction and hit a coal plant. Are all "15" in NJ?

I don't know, I didn't notice this said 15, the last list I saw said 35. I read somewhere that about 30% of our power is from coal. Is an electric car charged by a coal burning power plant or a house with electric heat really "environmentally friendly"?

That was always my point, if you don't live by a semi clean power plant all you've done by switching to an EV is move from burning gasoline to burning coal...
