Theres 2 tiny holes in the vinyl of the armrest of my new console that I'd like to fix. Do those little vinyl patch kits they sell at places like autozone work? Seems you gotta kinda blend your own color to match.

Anyone done this? Advice? Or just find a new lid?

I used one on a motorcycle seat, near the back corners of it. It's held up well but it will eventually fail. They're finicky to apply sometimes too.

Well I decided to try it. Got the 3M kit for 8 bucks.

They are only 2 spots, one was a burn mark, one about a 1/4" tear. First step was to fill the holes with the glue. Waiting on that to dry.

It comes with a bunch of paint and a little chart to tell you how to mix different colors. Grey was pretty easy, just use white and keep adding dabs of black until it looks right. It also comes with different texture pads and one was a perfect match. As soon as the glue is dry ill show you how it turns out. If it sucks ill just paint the whole damn thing.

Welp the glue part works fine but the paint is impossible to match and the "grain paper" didn't really work either so I'm painting the whole thing now.

Oh well for 8 bucks it was worth a shot.

It'll look better in blue anyway to match the seats...

Post a picture once you've painted it - I'm curious to see how well it blends in at that point.

I got my texture to match just fine but it takes some practice and patience. Too hot and it sticksto the texture pad.

I thought that was showing how your color matched vinyl matched the material around it? I was talking about how the whole cover looked after it was repainted.

Oh ok yes I'll post pics of that. The bottom is done im just finishing the armrest/lid now. I was going to leave the armrest grey but the color repair kit failed obviously so I'm going to do it blue. My seats are black and blue so it should match nicely. If I get frisky I may do the radio trim bezel blue as well. Then get some blue floor mats and a blue steering wheel cover so it's all sorts of snazzy. It's all a mess right now, hoping to get everything done this weekend.
