My credo
If it's not broken Don't Fix It!
Remember that terrible 2000 ranger I worked on, guy said keep it, then I fixed it and gave it back to him cause I felt bad?

Yea so I own that now, motor blew again....

It's now my 302 project.
At some point after a few motors it is best just to v8 swap it. Now you just need a dependable 302 to stuff in there because if the 302 blows up it just may be C4/det-cord time to put the truck out of its own misery.

Already have a 302 that's been in my shed for decades.... I'll do a sniper system not a factory efi.
Ok.... Do it the hard way.

I know Holley has a nice throttle body injection system that is an easy DIY EFI addition. Once installed it collects data and helps tune itself. Obviously you can tune it to your needs manually but helps you along the way.

If you think ford EFI is the easy way vs a holley sniper system you sir are drunk.

I put the holley on my 65 mustang in less than 4 hours and don't need to buy more computers to tune it. The system is idiot proof, the controls are are easy, and you have full access to everything without fighting with it. Wanna change parameters, just click some buttons. I don't see how in any way that it's "the hard way".

Try to tell a ford ecm you added boost... Or you disabled the egr.... Or say hello... You got better luck getting HAL9000 to open the doors.

The Explorer front accessory set up, the exhaust manifolds that fit the chassis, the best trans ever installed in a RBV... it’s practically a bolt in swap. I wasn’t talking about the fuel system.

I don't need any accessories but an alternator. And the best trans ever bolted to a 302 is the 4 speed toploader. I plan to find the same, or a Muncie rock crusher for the ranger. I have a toploader in the mustang so I know them in and out but the rock crusher is a temptation.

What’s your plan for power steering? That chassis never came with a manual rack. Are you just going to loop the pressure and return hoses together?

Took out the radio a few weeks back. Just getting around to building a box to make it into a cubby. It will be so nice to have a place to put my phone and wallet with out fighting with the arm rest every time. 🙂

Water pump to radiator clearance... All around very hard to beat the Explorer belt drive. If the 302 is older 28oz you can easily make it work.

I unloaded the 350X out of the back of the Ranger tonight, it was raining so I wasn't in the mood to get a ramp out so I cheated and used the A frame gantry crane and just lifted the thing, then rolled the Ranger forward by hand (level floors are nice) and set it down... Then I pulled the F350 into the shop in the Ranger's place and started doing rear brakes... got almost done with one side... Before I started that I saw the rear part of the headliner creeping down and since I caught a mouse in there the other day I thought it might be a nest so I ripped apart a bunch of stuff to get up there and it turns out it's just old and sagging... it probably doesn't help that something's apparently leaking in the back there like the third brake light... After I get the rear brakes done I'll start ripping into the engine, I need to reseal the oil cooler and start pulling the turbo for it's replacement, I have a feeling the EBPV actuator is leaking since that's apparently common, it's already bypassed so it might as well be removed while I'm in there... I'm hoping the turbo is most of the problem with power, I'll at least start there...
