If you can put a 4bbl intake on it fuel injection options are limitless... all the major companies make direct bolt on stand alone efi systems that mount on a 4 barrel carb platform. I have a holley efi on my 1965 289 mustang. Heck you could even just use a adapter to go from a 2 to 4 barrel and still use efi.

I have been formulating a 4 barrel intake for the 2.9 for awhile now. Haven't had a epiphany or eureka moment yet though.

The 2.9 already has fuel injection, putting a 4bbl intake on a 2.9 would be like wiping before you poop. If you just want a stand alone control system for a factory v6 EFI you can get a megasquirt computer, harness, and software then tune and fiddle to your hearts content. Megasquirt will work on practically anything.

I thought the original reference was to put an aftermarket fuel injection kit on a carbed engine...

That is just it. The megasquirt is a little too much fiddling for me. I could do it and get it working, but I am not willing to put forth the effort to bone up on all the programming for it.

I know it's a shame, the 2.9 already is setup with injection on it, but there are no simple ways to get away from the Ford system, which is very unfriendly to communicate with.

Have you tried yelling at it?

I haven't, but I have known mechanics who have. I know a lot of mechanics who do not like working on Fords for that reason. Not sure if the later Fords are more friendly or not. When they run they run good. When there is a problem, it can be difficult to find sometimes, especially wiring problems with the efi system.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
on tuesdays that have a full moon.......just park them next to each other and they will self swap if you drink beer at the correct rate for 10 minutes.

or...if you have more time then money and can not readily locate a running 2.9 for less then 50bux...you pretty much nailed it...you have the complete donor.. just do it.

you will understand what shran means about trying to put a gen 1 system into a later gen though in regards to wiring...totally different systems.

...and in no state, swapping an older engine into a newer vehicle is legal. not that i would give a flying fat rats arse...but if your in an area of testing you will really open up a can of cant do thats....

Oh my, don't even hint of doing anything illegal on here, even though you didn't. The moderators on this board love to moderate.
