So whats going to happen to garden hose connections? Used to youd ask for either a female or male end, Im sure there are other “gender specific “ things, this was the first one that came to mind
Now they make a uni-stick and spray connector, you just have to use enough KY

🤔 Hmmm, yes, that would work. But I’m ancient, stick to old school ways. I was raised & taught you never bolt metal on metal without a mechanical buffer, i.e., a gasket a’la @Uncle Gump. RTV would work, but personally, I don’t like to use “goo” too close to anything with motion. Also, my gray hair wannabe professor frustration with the advent of YouRube, I wanted to do a little show and tell for all y’all youngsters 😁

& Afterthought, the old (failed) thermostat was covered with goo. Now, I’m not saying it failed from poorly applied goo, it was obviously ancient....

I understand where you're coming from however most new vehicles don't use gaskets on many parts. Rear diff covers for example almost never come from the factory with gaskets. Most timing covers no longer use gaskets, the oil pan on my 2.3 has no gasket either, just factory RTV. RTV used properly is an excellent way to seal parts. The only things I wouldn't use RTV on is things with high chances of warping like valve covers. Just my 2 cents.

I’m disappointed the superglue cap I put on it years ago wasn’t a perfect seal.
Try squeezing some RTV into the cap before putting it on. Creates a seal to keep the rest of it fresh.

Most all plumbing fittings are identified by male/female.
Some plumbers (only the one who afraid of real work) use terms such as hub/socket, in the pipe, over the pipe.
A "street" fitting is one that has either a male or female type at one end and the street end is pipe sized, not bigger to go around or smaller to go in pipe.
Your plumbing lesson for the day!
You are welcome!

What's the opposite of advancing the timing? Can we still say that? I'd hate to offend my ignition...
