So I thought I finished the distributor replacement. Got it all hooked up. Removed the spout plug. Warmed up the engine. Adjusted to 10deg btdc. Tightened the bolt. Rechecked. Still good. Put the spout back in. RPMs jumped up a bit. Timing was at 28deg. Thought I read somewhere that it was supposed to do that. When I revved the engine, the timing changed. I didn't take note of how much at what rpm. Anyway, it seemed to be running nicely. Turned it off.

Got the dog in the truck to go for a test drive. When I tried to pull out of the driveway, it seemed rough and lacking power. I had to give it more accelerator than normal to get up the incline out if my driveway. Went just over a mile, turned around and came back. It never improved.

I guess I'll re-check the timing again on Monday. Don't feel like messing with it any more today. Could I have damaged something plugging in the spout with the engine running? Was I supposed to do that with engine off?

Well it is preferred to plug the SPOUT in with the engine off.
... and I know better. I have seen some very expensive electronics parts ruined at work when people connect them while energized. I'll try to redo the timing. But if it stays funky, I'll order the new Motorcraft ICM.

Put the new ICM in the other day. Truck started and ran rough. Double checked and found that some idiot named Eric got a couple plug wires connected wrong . Oops. Ran better after that. When warm, if I rev it up and let off the gas I get a small pop from the exhaust. I guess the timing isn’t quite perfect yet.

What have we here? 1 Do-it-yourself custom Rock sliders kit from Metals Supermarket. This is going to be interesting. My Skyjacker extended radius arm brackets take up a lot of real estate where I want to install my front Rock slider support. Middle support will be easy. Rear will take some engineering because the frame bends up behind the body quite a bit. Plus, the gas tank restricts access on the driver side for drilling and installing bolts.

Looks like fun!

That gas tank really is a pain where it is; one of the reasons I moved mine. You could run a couple bolts through the bottom of the C channel frame instead of through the side? And, could you bolt your bracket on top of the skyjacker one, reusing it's holes?

I have all my pieces cut/notched. My front mounting bracket will share a hole with a body mount bracket. So I got that rivet knocked out on one side. Then I decided to do some mock-up and finalize the positions for the mounting legs. About the time I finished that, it started snowing on me. So I pulled everything inside and tacked the mounting legs onto the outer rails. I will have 2 rails, similar to other designs. Here is a photo of the second rail clamped in place. I'm going to notch it half way through where it meets the mounting legs. So it will join with sort of a saddle joint. Should be strong and look cool. You might see that tomorrow since it us supposed to rain and I won't be able to work outside drilling holes in the frame. By the way. The rear mounting leg is short because it has to do a dog leg up to the frame. That's why the 45 degree fancy stuff in the photo above.

I like how the support legs sit on the inner pipe. Good bracing and clean for stuff dragging underneath.

Got a bit more done today. I cut the side notches on the lower tube. Cutting is easy. Getting them lined up in the right place is tricky. I had to readjust and now there are a couple wide gaps to fill. Hopefully the driver side will turn out better. I like the overall look.

Front bracket needed a filler plate behind it, so I made this.
