I bought a '03 Ranger 4x4 with a blown engine and a horrid paint job for $800, solid-ish body and good frame. My plan was to put a motor I have from an 02 in it, new chain guides and seals, just something to drive to work.. The only odd things I noticed were that the door tag said it came with 31x10.5-15" tires, has skid plates, and there was no EGR.
Today I found the original window sign in the glove box, says it has FX4 Level II package.. Cool!,, I think... How unusual is this? Is it something that would be worth fixing up or just keep it as a good work truck? (I'm going to paint it no matter what)
Anyway, thanks for the input!

Ok, Anyway, I'm happy about that rear axle, :) a motor and a new paint job (you can't see it too much in the picture, but the paint job looks like rattle can and exterior latex, there had to have been heavy drinking involved..) the prev owner also torched off the front tow hooks to put an LED light bar in the bumper... ugh... yea..
I think it'll make a good work truck for a few years.

Excellent! I'll put a little extra money in it and fix it up, my '04 Edge only has 105K miles on it, runs great, but the frame is trash, maybe I'll use that motor and put the 230K '02 motor in the '04 for my work truck, till the frame falls in two.. (it's done it once already..)

Just looks like one of the stickers with the build info for the ECU or one of the modules (security or PATs)

Stupid question, does it have the 2 chrome shifters? (Transmission and transfer case?)
I came across one of those trucks here locally for a stupid good deal and been slowly fixing it up. Been daily driving it for about 4 months now

Sometimes the manual-automatic documentation is "off" with the Level II's. Mine as listed as a manual on the VIN, but the fender tag says auto.

Welcome. Just drive right past the YELLOW color. Great score. Q: how does it drive? Current I am attempting to convert mine from cement truck to hopefully something slightly smoother. Looking forward to hearing more. - Doug

From what I read last night you only get the manual T-case w chrome knob on the '03 FX4 with the manual transmission, seems mine was special ordered with an auto trans. (dammit!) so it got the e-T-case.

Now that sucks! I’ve actually been lucky enough to have owned 2 black fx4 level 2 trucks from 2003. Both are exactly identical in every way except vin! Both are black with the black interior, and red insert in the seats. Both have the 2 chrome shifters for the case and transmission.
I actually ended up selling one of them to a very good friend of mine (veteran of desert storm) and he still has it till this day!
Now I daily drive my “new to me” fx4 level 2.
