In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Did anyone happen to get a pic of me driving through that little puddle before we went into the hill climb area?
I should have gotten out of the truck to watch that. I was behind Jim's truck. All I saw was when you came out the other side and I thought "Wow. What an angle to climb out. That must have been deep."

@85_Ranger4x4 had a video of it that they copied to my phone. I'll be adding it to the video I put together, if I have enough.

Anyone else have any videos to contribute?
I think you and 85 were the official video guys.

I'll hopefully get pictures off my good camera today.

Most of the pics look like really well maintained trails you could drive anything through. Is it like that around the whole park? I mean is it like a nice main trail and then the tough stuff off that or something?

There was a wide variety. There were decent trails to get to areas like the dunes, the rock quarry and the other quarry that I would call a sand and gravel quarry. Then there were harder obstacles like hill climbs, rocky cliff climbs, boulders, etc. Fairly nice trucks could get into these areas and then choose what to do or avoid. There were a lot of trails we didn't even touch. It was a true "something for everyone" place

there is a little of everything. I think we mostly kept to the easier trails (at least I did, I had to drive my Ranger back home lol) but there are some serious trails where there are signs that warn you that you need recovery equipment and you will get body damage. unfortunately I did not get a picture of one of those signs. So yeah, if you want to really press the capabilities of your custom built extreme 4x4, Badlands can and will accommodate you, but it is also friendly to the people that are first timers or do not want to damage their rig.

We should have stopped for photos when we were in that creek. That was a cool trail.

I'm impressed with Gump's willingness to go a few of those places with his nice shiny truck.

One of the reasons I didn't come (besides prior plans) was not knowing if I could even get my truck into the damn place, but most of that stuff looks like I could easily ride around then just stop and hang out when the big boys go play in the offroad stuff. Before having plans I was in negotiations to bring a jeep but then my concerns turned to the constant uncontrollable fires...

Yeah, that creek would have made for some nice pics. But that water was cold... you did not want to get your feet wet. Trust me on that.

Full-sized doors are nice sometimes.

A stock 4x4 with all terrains could have gotten around pretty good all day. Hell, my lowered 2wd could have made it at least the first 50-100 yards

NEVER... I think a heater is a good investment though. At least I can warm back up quicker.
I need a heater for my tent!

@85_Ranger4x4 had a video of it that they copied to my phone. I'll be adding it to the video I put together, if I have enough.

@snoranger, see if this works:

You should be able to download it from there. Sorry, I wasn't expecting you to try that and was fumbling trying to get my phone out of my pocket for the first trip across.

When you are hanging on the side of a cliff, jumping out to take pictures isn't the first thing that comes to mind. There is woolly stuff, I have video of some of what I did... its hard to capture the experience even with video though. Of course for my wildest thing nobody was around with a camera (or around period) to video from the outside.

I am also a noob flatlander tourist, I am easily impressed. And I had to drive mine home.

I loved the park, I liked Southington's campground better but this campground was a lot quieter (Jeepers were not running impacts, sawzalls, sledge hammers and boom boxes into the night) and the park was much nicer. I liked the trees and stuff at the Southington campground though. Badlands was like a buffet in the park, there were decent roads to get around and you could pick and choose what you wanted to do. Southington seemed like a parade. You drive thru the jungle and there is nowhere to stop or get out and you never knew what was coming. Somehow I still ended up doing more weird crap here than at Southington though.

Good job @Will on suggesting the park.

I have different tires and a limited slip (I think you have something similar) but I putzed along fine on the main trail in 2wd. I think the sand and the inclines would have been problematic for you with a 2wd though. I know prerunners do it... but I don't think you have a prerunner.

They did have side by side ATV's for rent too.

Yeah... There wasn’t much thought put into that. Jim asked me “how deep do you think that is?” and I said it can’t be that deep, as I shifted into 4wd and low range.
When I came back, I told him it was deep.
