My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
In the mid 90's, my buddy got an 88 BMW. don't remember what model, just an 88 Beamer. that thing had more technology in the center console than my 93 Mustang (LX I4) had all together. but when it broke down, he would bum rides from us for weeks at a time. Either it cost a lot to fix or waiting for parts to come from overseas. What is that smell that ALL BMW's have? Curry? and those hideous orange on black gauges.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

That is not how they smell when new. The gauge cluster is pretty cool these days.

But the technology and complexity has grown astronomically.

Rockauto is the way to fix one for sure advanced auto wanted $600-700 for an alternator. Rockauto is like $250 we really didn't expect it to last long it is a beater. The wife is complaining how do you know its the alternator..... hmmm if you put a new battery in then the battery goes dead after a short time and sitting for a week and it really isnt charging after you drive it like 15-20mins is the battery really chargin? It's acts like there isnt enough voltage to cycle through its nonsense then start im thinking alternator....

The Germans just to show off how smart they are by making thing super complicated and over engineered. I don’t claim to know emissions rules but I do know if they had to seal that contraption to pass couldn’t they just seal it up separately from the fuel tank, I would have only added 2 connectors. It’s what they lost the war they built great machine but once somebody farted in them they broke down and needed super special parts to fix. The Tiger really sticks out in my mind.

I would argue that Hitler thought he knew more than his generals and engineers... but then again slave labor doesn't do the best work either.... or giant V2 bases the can be leveled by Allied Bombers in one raid... the v2 on trucks would have been a better choice, also the Me262 wasnt a bomber but that dope wanted a jet bomber....

I'd like to have one, but I'd replace the BMW drivetrain with a GM.
I would like to do the same with a Land Rover Discovery II.

Fun fact: the wheel base is only about an inch different than an Explorer Sport.

Lose the time bomb aluminum engine, time bomb front driveshaft that will destroy the transmission, weird rubber isolated rear driveshaft and rust prone frame in one foul swoop...

End up with a cool looking aluminum body SUV with a “normal” powertrain and a good frame.

The Germans would have won the war if Hitler had listened to his generals. Thank God he didn't.
Maybe if Japan had also listened to Germany better on picking fights...

They probably are feeling sporty after finally getting to retire their F-4’s...

I've seen plenty of that from almost any nationality of engineer.

Much as I like the F-104, one of the coolest jets ever, they sure killed a lot of pilots. German pilots especially. That little stubby wing made for one hot rod of an aircraft, but notoriously difficult to land.

They just retired the F-4 a couple years ago.

Germans kinda used it wrong too. High speed interceptor with high wing loading... and they tried to adapt if to be a multi role fighter/bomber/CAS aircraft.

They used to say in Germany if you want your own F-104 buy land and wait.

Has anyone ever seen the “mouse” tank prototypes the Germans made. It was only 2 and I believe when we found them only 1 had a turret and they didn’t really ever work. But it literally dwarfed a tiger. It was a stepping stone to “land cruiser” tank which would have been basically a mobile platform to move around the Gustav railway gun. I admit I’m a younger man I didn’t google anything to double check my memory maybe had a beer so I may have gotten some things mixed but these were real ideas, Hitlers ideas. His doctor shot him up with so much “fun” stuff if think about it Hitler was on the first famous party girls if look at the ingredients. If you drop all the madness and insanity I bet Hitler was a fawkin’ pissa’ with all that party running through his veins. One little needle this guy is drawing 3 story tanks on napkins and handing them to Ferdinand Porsche, sounds awesome right, that’s Germany, that how 75 years later they design a massively complicated fuel system them encapsulate it. Because secretly......Germany=party but in Germany party=a meth binge while over complicating or over engineering things while claiming your smarter then everybody. They are not smarter or better they just liked meth and if you look at the world now it’s called “a.d.d.” medicine they were using P.E.D’s. Lol 😂
