The original Bullitt Mustang from the movie sells for $3.4 million.

I'm guessing this is the car we saw when we were at the Ford Ranger debut in Detroit. I can't imagine their being more than one.

I read about it a while ago. There were a few used in the movie. Some custom setup "jump" cars, a camera rig car, show car, etc. There's still some mystery about how many are still around. Some were wrecked in the movie and went to scrap yards, some were bought right after filming ended... I have no doubt it's a true bullit car, but I think theres more left hidden away.

As I recall, the documentation was pretty clear that at most two survived. One that ended up in Mexico and reappeared several years ago in rough condition (the stunt car), and the hero car for action shots with little risk that was unveiled at NAIAS right before the new Ranger in 2018.

It's the same one. The owner introducing the car in the video is the same one that was at the Detroit show.

It has the perfect "been there and done that and can do it again" stance and persona. I was down there waiting for the Ranger Team meeting and after comparing them side by side I decided I would rather have it (or one just like it without the movie tie-in) than the new one.

Ugh it's not even nice lol. And it wasn't a "rare" to begin with. It was just a gt with a 390. The gone in 60 seconds (remake) car was suppose to be a boss 429 but it was too expensive to actually get a real one so they used the gt500 (the original gone in sixty seconds was something weird but not really a beast). John wicks car is a real boss 429. The most legendary of the mustang's.

I'd buy a boss long before I bought that thing just because McQueen drove it...

I have never watched the whole movie I just like the color with the fastback and subdued styling.

From my understanding a new nicely appointed GT is something a detective could theoretically afford and that is one reason they went the direction they did.

They did not use real Shelbys in Gone in 60 Seconds.

There was one. Like most movies they had stunt cars and one for good nice shots that basically didnt get driven. But yea bullits car was not an expensive car. It was fast for the day but just a basic gt. A gt500 or boss would murder it. The boss 429 was only built to kill the mopar 426 hemi cars.

I don’t think they were doing Bosses yet when Bullitt was filming.

Boss 429 came out in 1969. Bullit came out in 68, gone in sixty seconds 74. So yes bullit wouldn't have had a boss either way. But like you said, bullits car was affordable at the time for a detective. They were probably 4 grand?
