Not sure why we have to keep messing with it.

We had "plys" 4ply, 6ply, 8ply etc

Then load range letters, C/D/E. My personal favorite, clean and concise.

Now shopping online nobody seems to use those anymore now we have vague numbers like 116T or 123S.

How do they correlate to anything? Is a 116 a 4 ply? Load Range C?

Weird they would have different speed ratings...

Anyway I am wanting Load Range C.

Supposedly that is 1820lbs, so the 116 (rated 2756) is actually rated 1000lbs heavier than a Load Range C?

Local tire guys deal in plys/letters and Amazon/Tirerack deal with the range numbers. Makes it a PITA to go back and forth... I really don't want to get stuck with a P rated tire.

Ply is from the very very old days when cotton plies were used on bias ply tires, and these were an air pressure rating, i.e. as you add more load the air pressure increases
"Light Truck Tires (LT) designate ranges in ascending alphabetical order, with load range ‘B’ representing a 4-ply rating at 35 PSI; C representing a 6-ply rating at 50 PSI, D representing an 8-ply rating at 65 PSI, E representing a 10-ply rating at 80 PSI"
So there will also be a weight at which a C rated tire will reach 50psi from its say 30psi no load inflation, which is about 1,300lbs

With radial construction there may only be 2 "plies" for a 10ply load rating, so the actual "ply rating" is not specific enough

What makes it even more confusing is some of the "P" rating tires have a higher load rating than the equivalent Load C tire. According to the web site for my local dealer, the stock tire for my 2019 has a load rating of 112 (2469#) but the LT C rated tire is 109 (2271#).

I have some 315/75/17s that would look good on your truck.
Too bad they are not 285’s and you were like three states closer...

Not sure I could crank t bars enough to get 315’s under it.

Probably not. They are take-offs from a Raptor, still have some useful tread on them.

Lead follow or get out of my way
I know I spent way to much time looking at tires last year. I would just suggest you look at 4WP in your quest. I know last year they did a big sale... had a bunch of rebates... they even paid the sales tax and I saved hundreds. Last year it was right after the new year when it all came together... might be worth a look.
