Didn't know you had a 4 speed, yeah. You might as well get use to it. Or get an odd ball gear set like 2.80 you wont set any quarter mile records but you should be able to get close to 200mph eventuality lol

The 98 I drove it like a rally car. Jumped train tracks plenty of mountain climbing. And basically like any 16-19 year old would. The other one was a work truck that was used very hard by 30 different people. But who broke it?! This guy!!! Thats who.... even got the spider to put a hole in the diff cover lol

I might swap in the 3.08 8.8 just to try it. The only bad part is that it has no brakes or backing plates so I'll have to swap all my 7.5 brake stuff over. My truck actually came with a 3.45 gear but I threw it away. It was terrible with the original 2.0 so I chunked it and got the 3L73 7.5 out of a '91 Ranger. It does have 10" drums though. So far my 7.5 has held up good. The truck will usually spin just standing down on it so I've yet to rev it up and dump the clutch. I imagine it would blow the spider gears or clutch pack out if I did. I might try it if I decide on the 8.8.

The 7.5 stuff might not work. On the 8.8 never tried it thou I always just put new brakes and stuff on.

Of course you just got to know where to look. Obviously since the last administrations brilliant idea of cash for clunkers those day will take another 10 years to return. But ive paid 50 bucks for cars before and even traded firewood for a truck. And coal another time.

I've had some luck like that. Ranger specific; I traded a 24 pack of beer for an 87 STX Hi Rider. It was clapped out but I just wanted suspension.
