It's good for what it is, a homeowners version of a real one. I bought it last year when Canadian Tire was clearing out their winter seasonal stuff. IIRC I got it for $400.00 after making offers for several weeks, so about 16 cents on the dollar.

Dang... that purchase was a no brainer at that price.

Today I changed the oil. This is one of the last warmish days for a week. Temps are supposed to drop to -25 for a high for a few days. I put in 5w30, if I had 0w30 I would have used that instead, I have bought a bunch of different oil all on sale, the 5w30 was the thinnest. I also stuffed some cardboard in front of the rad. There is a few inches space still so should be good for slow speed too.

I'm kinda glad the -25 stuff is headed back up there where it belongs.

My truck fired up the last three mornings at -25 or colder... it didn't like it much and made some noises I wasn't use to hearing. I've been running full synthetic 5W-30. If those were the normal temps... I would do a block heater for sure.

I do have a block heater, thanks for reminding me. I just have to run a 50' cord.

So I put too much cardboard in front of the rad and she got a little warm. Pulled half the cardboard and she's good now. I went to check the rad fluid jug I carry in the box and it was frozen like a slushy, and it's mixed 50/50. That's supposed to be good to -45 or something. It did get to -38 according to the weather network on my phone, but those are usually taken at the airport where the asphalt keeps temps a little higher, so it was probably colder where I'm at.
Found my heater cord unplugged at the engine, the engine was a little hard to start...
And I made my way to the one wrecking yard we have left and picked up a rubber diaphragm for my clutch master cylinder. It's been missing since I bought the truck. I think that's why the clutch slave let go a couple months ago. Clutch fluid is hydrophilic, it attracts water, and then anything metal starts to rust.

Today I swapped out the starter. The truck has been acting like it had a weak battery. Then a couple days ago it just clicked but all the interior stuff still worked. Checked the battery and it was at 12.3V. I have 2 other 4.0 blocks and another m5od out in storage...think I could find a spare starter? Ended up buying a new one for C$150.00. It worked....I'm glad because it was non-returnable once installed.

Look at it this way... you probably won't be doing another one for years. If you had a spare... you might be doing it over next month.

@Uncle Gump You jinxed me. My f150 starter just went this morning. Exact same symptoms. Hopefully the 5.4 starter will bolt into my 4.6. I'm not a hoarder...I'm not ....really.

Today I found my obd1 code reader and check my truck. Came back the o2 were reading rich, the injectors were firing for too long, and the maf was out of range. Pulled the maf and saw dirt on it. Yikes. Pulled the air filter and a mouse had started to pull the paper apart to build a nest somewhere else. Everything makes sense now. Cleaned the maf and put in a new filter. Hoping that cures the rough running and cel.

Lol. I have a 2.9 in an 86 ranger. It sits.....
If I ever get ahead of the game I have a 69 460 that I can make fit.
