You are right, Rusty. Toyotas have that rep. I've worked on a few from the 90s that were gone. Mine doesn't have any rust in the frame or body, but lots of the fasteners I've had to remove under the truck have broken off and had to be drilled out. It's like the bolts under there are made of chalk.

I'm a Ford Ranger guy, not a Toyota guy. I just call it how I see it.
I was kind of half assed just blowin ya shit. I actually kinda sorta like the FJ. For some reason.

Still a bit to mall crawler for my tastes though. Most of my opinions are outdated ill admit, however seems most japanese trucks/SUVs just, arnt built as stout as the american stuff.

That goes for everything. Including power.

I do remember back in the day though you saying your pilot would of outwheeled my 1st gen expedition though stock for stock. Seems that one got slightly heated.

Mall crawler? No. I'm bringing it to the 20th and if you show up, I'll let you drive it off road. It's military-vehicle quality.

I did not argue for the Pilot against the Expy. It was the Honda 3.5 vs the 300-6.

I'm still fun enough to argue with you.

I may surprise yall and show up. Who knows. Im an elusive, yet imfamous sumbitch around here :)

Was it the 3.5 vs 300?? I dont remember now. But i think youre right. And my opinion still stands.

But yeah, id take the ol FJ for a spin. See if it stands up to the standards set by the full size, pre EFI fords im used to.

I'm softening up, too. I let some guy on a Harley go today without blowing him inside-out. I came up behind him at a red light leaving town. He had some skull and crossbones on his jacket. He took off hard and I shifted a with him (about 6,000--half shifts for me) to keep from running him over. I got to my turn and took it and let him go off thinking he outran a liter-bike. Figured he was a Trump supporter and such.

The main reason for solid axle over ifs is cost in my opinion. If I were to build ifs to perform the way I wanted it would be significantly more expensive than building a solid axle that does what I want speaking strictly from a dedicated off-road perspective

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
I've seen my share of Rangers with the rear spring hangers and shackles rusted through- NH roads are white with road salt between storms in the winter months and it takes a toll- but nothing compared to Toyota's frame problems. Our local Toyota dealer had the field behind their shop piled high with rotted frames they'd replaced but that wasn't the worst part. They'd lift trucks to inspect the frame with a light and if no holes were visible they'd rap on the frame with a 1 lb body hammer, if the hammer didn't poke through they sent their customer back on the road. If I held a razor sharp punch against a Ford frame with a pair of Vise Grips and my biggest tech could drive a hole in the frame with a sledge hammer, I'd say the frame was weak. Toyota has been extending their recall one year at a time, it wasn't just 90's trucks, they "fixed"(we'll see) the problem for their 09 trucks. One of my former tech's son worked at the Toyota dealer as a votech intern and he called his Dad one morning laughing, he'd picked up a Tacoma to service it, the frame broke off and the box and rear frame section were sitting on the tailgate while the cab was still up in the air. I kind of pitied the service advisor who had to go talk to the customer.

I've never heard how many Toyota drivers were killed in accidents after their weakened but not perforated frames failed.

It is based on a pretty well respected Land Cruiser so it should be good.

Just read an article saying IRS F-150's are coming, The more luxury and/or Sport oriented models will have IRS available, but the heavier duty trucks will still get SRA (solid rear axle)
will ad link when I can find it:

IRS worked fine for the second Generation Sport Trac, which used to be between the Ranger and F150 in the line up.

I followed a 4 wheel steer GMC down the main drag the other day, I thought "that is worthy enough it is too bad it didn't stick around"

IRS in a truck... heck no.

It's kinda funny," it hauls less, but we're gonna have to charge you more" is what I read
