I just got word from my insurance company. They're refusing to total it. They're refusing to give me a rental. They basically said "F-off".
I'll get a lawyer involved when I get home next week.

I get that you are stuck with them through this ordeal, but I think I'd also be getting new insurance.

I have kicked insurers to the curb for less.

This is an extreme example of Fords being engineered to be sold not serviced

It’s a parts supply problem not an engineering problem.

Agreed. They could at least set aside a batch of different parts for situations that arise like the op is going through.

This situation still arises from the mind set that their products will never need repaired, and so there isn't a need for replacement parts.

This is a prime example of that approach not working. Their parts may be engineered to not need repair:)icon_rofl:) under normal ware, but in situations like this, they need spare parts.

Ford's challenge at moment is: F-150s are selling like hot cakes - they were on track to set record for most vehicles of a single model sold in a year* (It was looking like over 900k trucks for year).

When manufacturing is running flat out trying to keep up with new truck sales, you have a problem. It's a good problem to have; but a problem none the less as you can't keep spares in stock, which leads to customer satisfaction issues such as this one.

*Record is 939,511 F-150s in 2004, as of July, Ford was ~30k units ahead of '17 when the sold just under 897k F-150s.

Just curious. How bent is the axle? Could some sort of line bore correct the issue? Insurance-wise isn't this a tangle between ins co and Ford dlr. If parts are unobtainable, the truck is a total.

Rough estimate... 6-8", it even busted the cast center section. I would have taken the housing and retubed it myself (I have the equipment and knowledge to do it.) if it wasn't so damaged.

No, this approach to vehicle building is stupid at all times.

Probably not a common part to fail for them to worry about stocking either.
