Depends on the year, your suspension, engine location. Your question is too broad.

yeah, its broad, there are different fead's, oil pans, intakes, trans adapters........

starter locatons vary with trans type and sae ends etc.

study of all of the types and what they look like in situ will go a long way towards smoothing out the swap.

I had to lift my 94 in order to not modify the pan from hitting any stock cross members. You can reverse the pan and instal a different oil pick up tube to make it a rear sump. There are A bunch of different ways to set it up and different options like BW just said above.

Well its just an idea, and I know the engine weighs more than stock, and I had been looking around at other peoples post abt doing the same swap and nobody ever said anything abt modifying the frame to support the weight, the nice thing is I go to school were we have a 4bt I front of the deans office and study almost every day ive taken a couple measurements aalready, and I was gona lift the truck anyway and make it a prerunner, I would like to do something different for once, a lot of people do 351w and 302s and I was like why not a 4bt with turbo, I found an engine near my house for sale on criaglist for 1500 its pretty cruddy looking and would probably need a rebuild not a big deal I like building engines anyways

Diesel swaps are cool, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to have that much weight at the front end of an actual prerunner. Seems like you'd have some balance issues in the air, and all of your front suspension components would have to be even larger and stronger to handle the added weight (which means more expensive) than they would with a lighter engine.

If it's just going to be a street truck built in the prerunner style, and you're not going to be jumping it, then do whatever engine you want.

a stock 4bt aint shit.

power and weight of one are not serious issues that would injure a good condition ranger frame with hydro mounts.. looking at 750-1000 pounds depending on your trans selection for a 4bt...an e40d or 4l80 or allison being the heavy side... many run 820 pound engine trans combos...

a older 4 cyl ranger with auto is about 620 ish iirc.

conversely...yes a mere 100 pounds is allot of extra weight over typical front suspensions and can effect pure balance for most vehicles..so most think that 2-500 is murder. with tib/ttb rangers things are different...torsion sla are pretty stout and easily tuned as well.....beefing up the spring rate on a sla/coil chassis is a little trickier but not overly hard or complicated.

the sla joint issues are weak points, the tib ttb not so much.

with v8 swaps initially i thought the weight was an issue until i realized it was the torque curve/hp combination that affected the handling more then weight. this was readily apparent with alum hi power swaps and turbo 4 trucks.

theres guys here with 2-250 pound front bumper winch combos that think a v8 weight increase at the axle would be bad for handling:icon_rofl:....but didnt notice much with the monstrosity hanging off the front with two huge batteries.

so its all relative to actual build goals. prerunner obviously needs a tight balance...general use just needs to be reasonable.

i daily drive my truck with full width axles and a 6.2 diesel/4l80 setup that weighs about the same as a 4bt setup and it drives pretty good for the low power it has.

Mine is an all black 94, there is a video floating around somewhere. I am expecting to get the truck back from the shop sometime early July.
