Since I'm having trouble with the other truck but can't afford to have it not running for any amount of time to fix it and I really wanted a 4.0 4x4 anyway, I picked this up for a project truck. It's a '88, 2.9, 4x4. Supposedly, the transmission and transfer case have been rebuilt. It does have a new fuel tank. This is the day I got it home. I have since re-assembled the engine. BTW, I towed it home 60 miles and up two hills with the other ranger in it's condition! Anyway here are the pics:

What do ya'll think?

I don't get it. You really wanted a 4.0 so you bought a 2.9? that doesn't make sense :dunno:

Nice...looks like someone else gave up on the project but did some work to it before calling it a day...

The 4.0 swap would be good...and you've got most of what you need already to make it a worthwhile build...:icon_thumby:

The engine was supposedly shot, it's one of the easier swaps to do and I prefer the first gen body.

Really? I thought it was standard on all of these? $600

Thank you, and Happy Holidays (is Merry Christmas OK?) to you too.

I've spent all day today going over it and I think the only thing wrong is that the timing is 90 degrees out. When I ran the KOER codes it came back with code 18 (R) Check base timing & advance function - Timing Tests. So, I loosened the distributor to adjust it by ear and it was turned all the way counter-clockwise. Turning it any at all the other way causes it to quit. There is a receipt for a new distributor in with the paperwork I got when I bought it.

$600? I've never seen a Ranger so cheap
So jealous!
