As some of you may know, I've got an 06 Escape. My rear wiper does not work - and I'm finally getting around to working on it. I've found that going to the wiper there is the 3 wire harness. I'm getting 12 volts there across the ground and center wire (brown I think), and I assume there is supposed to be a signal in the third wire. I don't know if I need an analog meter to see this signal (my digital meter might be too slow) or if I am getting no signal. I was trying to locate the rear wiper relay, but the only relay in my manual that states "rear wiper" is all the ACC/Run, cigarette lighter, and front wiper relay. This can't be the same relay providing the signal to the wiper.

So, my question is.... Is there a relay for the rear wiper? Or is this signal coming out of the Smart Junction Box (please tell me I don't have to replace this damn thing)?

I've taken the motor apart, everything seems to spin freely. I cleaned up the electrical where the brushes make contact. I don't believe it is the motor, nor do I believe the shaft is seized.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hey Shane, I'll start first off that I don't know. My gf has a 2008 Mazda Tribute which should be the same platform, I'll check hers when I get home.

One thing I wanted to recommend (and you may have already done this) is to apply power to that third line to see if the motor actually works. I've cleaned a few starters that looked like they should have no problem and it was the dratted copper winding that was fried.

I'm pretty sure there IS a wiper relay under the hood somewhere. I know this isn't much help, but I figured I'd at least let you know that I'm looking for your answer right now.

PS I finally read the jammer guy's thread recently and I had no idea you had him quoted in your sig. That is Fing hilarious.

Thanks guys. I don't know why I hadn't thought of that. I put a jumper between the brown and blue wires, and sure enough it works. Gotta be a relay issue. Now if I could figure out where it's at.....

Oh... and this is my wifes Escape. I wouldn't care if it were my DD. She likes it though, so I'm going to fix it.

Thank you for that schematic Sasquatch!

That's exactly what I was afraid of. I figured it must be in the SJB if there was no relay in the fuse panels. What a STOOOOOOPID thing to do.

[thinking] I wonder if I can intercept the signal out of the stock and make my own circuit...... [/thinking]

The wiper on my Mountaineer quit too. I just took a hold of the wiper arm base and pulled outward. It started working again - and did the rest of the time I owned it.

Alright...... another thought. If I just run a jumper between the brown and blue wires, it's just like being on high all the time. Will that ruin anything if I do that?

I guess I may want to cut the blue wire so I'm not feeding back into the SJB....

Scratch this idea. The 12 volts is an accessory 12 volts. So it's not switched with the wiper switch, and the wiper just keeps running..... dang it.

EDIT: If I had studied the schematic a little harder, I would have noticed that..... :annoyed:
