My Escape rear wiper doesn't work. Ideas?

As some of you may know, I've got an 06 Escape. My rear wiper does not work - and I'm finally getting around to working on it. I've found that going to the wiper there is the 3 wire harness. I'm getting 12 volts there across the ground and center wire (brown I think), and I assume there is supposed to be a signal in the third wire. I don't know if I need an analog meter to see this signal (my digital meter might be too slow) or if I am getting no signal. I was trying to locate the rear wiper relay, but the only relay in my manual that states "rear wiper" is all the ACC/Run, cigarette lighter, and front wiper relay. This can't be the same relay providing the signal to the wiper.

So, my question is.... Is there a relay for the rear wiper? Or is this signal coming out of the Smart Junction Box (please tell me I don't have to replace this damn thing)?

I've taken the motor apart, everything seems to spin freely. I cleaned up the electrical where the brushes make contact. I don't believe it is the motor, nor do I believe the shaft is seized.

Any other suggestions?

Hey Shane, I'll start first off that I don't know. My gf has a 2008 Mazda Tribute which should be the same platform, I'll check hers when I get home.

One thing I wanted to recommend (and you may have already done this) is to apply power to that third line to see if the motor actually works. I've cleaned a few starters that looked like they should have no problem and it was the dratted copper winding that was fried.

I'm pretty sure there IS a wiper relay under the hood somewhere. I know this isn't much help, but I figured I'd at least let you know that I'm looking for your answer right now.

put power to it to see if it works have owend my escape 5 years never used it i hate rear wipers they scratch the window and look like crape form the back so i dont know if mine works

Thanks guys. I don't know why I hadn't thought of that. I put a jumper between the brown and blue wires, and sure enough it works. Gotta be a relay issue. Now if I could figure out where it's at.....

hope you figure this out, the rear wiper on my EX hasnt worked for years. it used to work, then it would only work when it was warm out, now it wont work ever

That's exactly what I was afraid of. I figured it must be in the SJB if there was no relay in the fuse panels. What a STOOOOOOPID thing to do.

The wiper on my Mountaineer quit too. I just took a hold of the wiper arm base and pulled outward. It started working again - and did the rest of the time I owned it.

I guess I may want to cut the blue wire so I'm not feeding back into the SJB....

Scratch this idea. The 12 volts is an accessory 12 volts. So it's not switched with the wiper switch, and the wiper just keeps running..... dang it.

EDIT: If I had studied the schematic a little harder, I would have noticed that.....
