Ive got an 1987 bronco 2 with a 2.9v6 and Im wondering whats involved in putting a eaton m90 supercharger on the motor and how is it mounted? Im not looking for a bunch of posts about how I could drop in a 4.0l or a 5.0l I want to be a little different rather then running a 5.0l, turbo 2.3, or a 4.0l. What I already know is Ill prob need a MAF setup, bigger injectors and such where Im lost is whats involved in installing the supercharger itself.

1. I would look at a M45 or M62. The M90 is probably a bit much for the 2.9.
2. You would need to fab a manifold for it
3. You would need to convert to a maf intake and upgrade your injectors and get a wideband to keep your A/F in check
4. You would have to have a custom pulley made up since it uses a serpintine style and the 2.9 uses a v belt
5. Spend months working out the bugs, vac leaks, and fuel issues

The m62 and m90 are probably the two Im gonna look into the m90 is rated for 3.0-5.0l engines and is the one I seen that was suggested and the m62 is for 2.5-4.0l engines. They both are cheap to purchase but Im thinking the m62 is probably gonna be better suited to my aplication for right now, thanks for that info. As for a manifold would fabbing somthing out of aluminum or modding a 2.9 manifold work for this? As for injectors I was thinking the 5.0l 19lb injectors, and also now that theres gonna be a greater draw for fuel what would be a good fuel pump to upgrade to?

there's a guy here who put an eaton onto a 4.0l

I had an eaton on a Toyota that I got from someone and they had fabbed the manifold from a stock one.

As far as injectors goes, my JRSC on my Focus is an M45 and it came with 30# injectors. The SVT version is an M62 and came with 42# injectors. You are going to have to play with injector size and maf calibration though since its not OBD-II and can't be tuned easily.

K kool thanks for the info should anything else I should look into before attempting this?

A dd while this is down. I would aslo see if you can find some info from someone that has done it, or turboed the 2.9 and see how they set up the fuel and what psi they are running.

why not get a paxton, vortech, procharger, or whatever kinda blower and use it instead of a roots type? will be way easier, prolly cheaper for the blower, and u can get them all day long from the mustang guys, or get a new one for 1100 bucks, set up for 8psi. ive even tossed up the idea of puttin one on my 2.8 with an offey intake and vortech carb box. prolly worth it to check out that option instead of roots type

It would be easier yes, but not cheaper. Eaton blowers with no accessories can be had for less than $300 if you know where to look.

those vortech/pro-charger/paxton pieces of absolute-crap are so spendy all to just have nothing more than a belt-driven-turbo with a ton of ducting ......turbo lag, needs blow-off valve, needs waste-gate etc. overall those companies did a phenomenal job of marketing an inferior alternative to positive displacement superchargers, that is more-expensive than a turbo, with more parasitic loss than a turbo. if space were a concern positive displacement makes more boost, no lag, and takes up less space, and if underhood space weren't a problem but money was, a turbo makes equal boost (relative to unit size) while being much cheaper. not to mention if cost were not a concern positive displacement blower kits cost as much or less.
yet people pay for them,

correction: idiots pay for them

nothing? no one knows?

Was going to use an '01? Xterra M90 blower on mine. The original set up I bought sat the S/C to the passenger side of the motor - under it was a custom made housing to funnel the air into the upper intake. An additional serpentine pulley was added to the 2.9L balancer to drive it. You would likely have to switch over to a MAF system (I was already running MAF w/ a mid/high cam). My game plan was to machine an adater to bolt it right to the 2.9L lower intake maniifold. But I wisened up, sold what I had, and saved myself a bunch of time and effort just getting a V8... :icon_twisted: 2.9L is an old and tired dog, the aftermarket is far worse now than when I was messing around a few years ago. It's only going to get worse.

This is not going to be a bolt on affair. Lots of custom fabbing/trial and error. Might be worth while to have a few spare engines on hand. :D (Edit: If there any any good ones left :D :D)

Well they don't have lag since they are belt driven, they just make more boost with more RPM. No need for a wastegate either :dunno:

I do agree a PD blower or turbo is much better.

Yeah, a lot less then $300. I have 2 spares for my Supercoupe. I got one for free and the other cost me $35.

Supercoupes use #30 injectors stock.

are you kidding? have you even had one? centrifigul blowers have a lag. i had a procharger on my lt-1 camaro. it came with the car, and it still wasn't worth it. and no it didn't have a waste-gate, but it had a blow-off valve and it had a lag.
