Door Won't Open

My passenger side door will not open from the inside, but it will open just fine from the outside. Right now, my passengers have to roll down the window in order to get out of the truck. What would cause this, what parts do I need, and how do I fix it?

I had that happen too, the handle has either broke or come loose on the inside of the door. Time to take the door apart!

Sounds like it is the inside door latch assembly. You can get a new one at the dealer or go to a scrape yard and get a known working one. It could just be a simple thing that came loose...passenger pulled too hard and popped something lose. You will need to take it apart and look at it. You will have to take of the door panel off to look at it (not sure how your Ranger looks but it might have to come off to fix it).

If its the plastic clip for the door rod don't look at getting it from the jy. they break real easy when trying to take them out. we had to get it from the dealership at $6.00 a pop. replaced all four on the son's Explorer doors just cause.

FORD used to do this on their older trucks. It was called the courtesy cab. You had to go over and unlock the passenger door because it had the only key hole. Then your passenger would reach across and open your door from the inside. It was a great design, unless you were fighting with your wife....

I would leave it that way, then when you are on a date you could act all cavalier and open the door for you date! LOL!

I stripped down a set of 89 doors a few months ago, and I still have all the stuff sitting around here somewhere. on the exact locale though.

More often than not the latch isn't actually "broken"

The roll pin that the latch lever pivots on has walked out of one of the loops
at the top or bottom of the latch body and the handle has "jumped time"

The lever works a second lever with plastic gear teeth (both pieces could be considered "Sector gears") IF the latch hasn't actually "broken"
you can either get the pieces back into proper alignment and push
the roll pin back into place

OR you can do what I did.... I replaced the roll pin with a #10 machine screw and elastic stop nut.

I really doubt it's gonna back off ever again....

Okay, not exactly sure what I'm looking at. Maybe somebody can see what went wrong or maybe I have to take even more apart. Either way, if you see something, let me know. If you need to see more, I'll take more apart. I've never had to repair something like this before, so I'm clueless.

Handle pulled a bit. If I pull any further, I hear a "snap" and the rod goes back to the position above. Notice it moves a little bit, but not much.

Everything is apart and it looks like it may rain, so please help!

Get a picture of the inside of the door handle as if you are operating it to open it. My guess is that the teeth inside are broken, not allowing it to operate. It also looks like it is proped inward a bit when it should be more parallel to the door, also a sign of the plastic gear inside being broken. Solution: replace the handle, about $10 on ebay.

AllanD hit the nail on the head. The roll pin popped outward (notice in the first picture how it is sticking out). For now, I hit it back in. If it backs out again, I will replace it with a machine screw as you did.

It's all fixed and put back together.
