Bronco II out, Cj-7 in. I went and did it.

im not gonna lie. there are some pretty sweet cjs ive seen but im just not a jeep person. dont get me wrong i kno what they can do and all. but a ranger fits it for me. not many people around here wheel them :)

CJs to me just seem like a VERY outdated platform to build (into a wheeling rig.) Maybe it is just the carbureted engine and leaf springs. I haven't seen a CJ in a long time that was not highly modified and performed well.

I guess I don't know what your intentions are for use of the vehicle after it's done - if you're just restoring it then do whatever you want.

i wouldnt use bed liner or engine paint. bed liner tends to hold in crap and make it rust faster when there is any amount of exsisting surface rust, even after you wire brush it off. engine paint has high heat ratings, but not that useful on a frame. i would use por15 or even tractor supply implement paint.... its cheap and has a good amount of rust inhibitors.

You probably though that would make me run away crying like a little girl.
But actually, thats pretty cool...
I've never been much of a fan of cherokees.

Now if that was a Cj it was on, I'd be tracking you down with my chainsaw as we speak...

Good point about the bedliner.
I was thinking about using it, but your right, it would be hard to clean.

My Ranger is carburated and 50% suspended by leaf springs. :bawling:

If it wasn't for the leaves I wouldn't hardly have any flex at all same as any factory Ranger 83-11. :shok:

Mine has 110% factory suspension aside from the shocks.

TTB isn't exactly cutting edge technology either...

Dad just got a CJ-2A, super cool little rig. Can't wait to get it going, the little bugger should about be able to do a cookie in the space my Ranger takes up just sitting there.

Oh yeah, I hear exactly what you're saying. Yours isn't a dedicated wheeling rig though, right? I am just used to wheeling with buggies that are running coilovers, 4 link setups and rear steer. If you're building a trail rig from scratch a CJ is a really bad platform to start from. I'd build a YJ or TJ, or definitely a JK instead.

Nope, not a dedicated wheeling rig. Not highly modified either.

If you are building a rig from scratch, in my mind whatever it is will be highly modified anyway. I don't think any jeep came from the factory with anything that you are used to running with except coilovers. Adding a FI engine isn't rocket science, changing suspensions... well a YJ has leaves all around too.

If you can afford a JK for a dedicated wheeling rig, who cares because you could probably afford whatever you want to do to an older rig anyway.
