need help w/ home theatre setup

Well, as I said before, pretty much the only way you can get TV audio to play on your receiver is through the digital coax. It appears the only coax on your receiver is on the DVD input. (the "DVD coaxial in") So, whenever you're watching TV, switch to the DVD input on the receiver.

You could leave the DVD player hooked up as-is, however, in order to get Dolby Digital surround, (Dolby Digital is INFINTELY better than Dolby Pro-Logic) you NEED to use a digital cable (either a digital coax cable or digital optical). Since you're using the digital coax for your TV, the only other digital audio input is the optical input that's connected to Video 2. So, I would connect the DVD player to Video 2 instead of the "DVD" input, and use an optical cable for it. (You don't need the red and white audio cables, only the yellow for video, and the optical for sound.)

TO SUMMARIZE: Connect an RCA cable from "SPDIF out" on TV to "DVD coax in" on reciever. Use "DVD" input for cable TV.

Connect yellow RCA cable from DVD player to "Video 2" input on receiver. Connect digital optical cable from DVD player to "Optical Video 2 in" on reciever. Use Video 2 for watching DVDs.

ok, so any single plug cord from my SPDIF on my tv to the DVD coaxial on the receiver will get my audio signal from the coaxial cable connection from the wall, correct? so, like a yellow or orange one? it's orange on the receiver if that makes a difference.

then, for sure a yellow cable, from my DVD player (any specific port? or just a yellow one?) to the video input port in the "Video 2".

then do I still need another yellow cable in my monitor out to a video input on my TV? or will the SPDIF to DVD in cover the video from the DVD player?

sorry, i just don't know home video/audio very well. hell, i barely know car/truck audio but i like to think i do lol.

Correct. It doesn't matter what the color of the wire is.

Correct. Plug the wire into the yellow port on the DVD player and connect to yellow port on Video 2.

Yes you need another video cable. The SPDIF won't cover video.

wow. thanks for proving my point. you're having him use the same 75ohm connector for the tv that i first suggested.

Umm, WHERE in the hell did I say that? I told him to use the digital coax input on the receiver, which is COMPLETELY different than a 75-ohm coax connector. A digital coax connector uses a standard RCA-style connector, not the big screw-on 75-ohm type connector.

The ONLY 75-ohm connector on this receiver is to connect an FM antenna. (brown circle). The RCA connector I'm telling himto use is the light blue circle.

Correct. Plug the wire into the yellow port on the DVD player and connect to yellow port on Video 2.

okay so in summary...

cables i need:
1) coaxial from wall to tv
2) single ended (it has to be single ended, correct?) RCA from DVD to the video in on receiver
3) single ended (same as above? single ended?) RCA from SPDIF on tv to the DVD in on my receiver

and then of course speaker wires and power. but that should cover it right?

Don't forget the optical cable from DVD player to receiver for audio. And the RCA to carry the video from receiver to TV. Other than that, yeah you got it covered.
