So as I was removing my passenger side body mounts to tip the cab to get the transmission up over the Y pipe to do a clutch job, I snapped the front passenger side body bolt. I was going at it from the bottom, as I can't figure out how to get a socket on it from the top, the front upper body is in the way. Can't get a socket on it with an extension and a u-joint, and there's no room for a big enough box end wrench. The lower half of the body mount rubber and washer came off as I tilted the body, the upper portion is still welded to the body by rust.

To sum up: I need to break the top mount loose, if I can get a 1/2" drive socket on it I'm sure I can do it. How do I get a socket on it so I can get it off, but more importantly, tighten it once it's back on? It's a 1992 4x4 with the 2.9L.

well um..... its easier to take the y pipe off. i did that for my truck, still a pain int he butt but only managed to snap one bolt on the flange.

to get the front body mounts off? really? the Y pipe isn't anywhere near them.

If you mean to get the transmission out, there's no way that was happening. The bolts were badly stripped. When I changed my motor, I ended up cutting the Y pipe, removing the engine, cutting the bolts, drilling them out, and welding the pipe back together. ANyway, that job is done, now I've gotta deal with the broken body mount bolt.

Yes I think it will not loosen again. You can get it from ebay. Or other market places related to socket. :icon_thumby:

but how do you get a socket or something on the top side to tighten it? parts of the body are in the way

I'm not sure which front you mean. The front inner fender and rad support are spot welded to the cab, everything moves as one.The one by the radiator you can access with a long extension from the top. The one under your feet you access by lifting carpet and sound deadener and removing an oval shaped plastic/rubber cover from the floor, exposing the bolt head.
