Hey everybody, i'm planning on building up a set of free floating rockers, like Kunz explains. I was wondering if anyone had any specs outlined exactally like in Sven Pruett's book. I was also wondering if anyone had specs in an upgraded cam for the 2.9L. Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

Can't help much with the rockers, but Colt Cams in Canada has a good reputation. A member posted about them a week or two ago, and I spoke with the owner of Colt Cams personally on the 1st. Ordered a torque cam from them that day and so far I have nothing but good things to say. They'll grind you a cam for your 2.9 built to one of a few pre-set specs. Check them out http://coltcams.com/

According to my 87' shop manual
the rocker arm shaft dimensions are .7799" - .7811"
& the rocker arm bore is listed as .7830 - .7842

sooo....if you bored the alum spacers to the rocker arm bore dimensions that should be good for that.
as for the length. thinking about .01"-.015 on each side. as to the length of the alum spacer, you might be better to measure as assembly & go from there.

did a search, found this as well ...see link below

Hey, thank you very much for your replies gentlemen! Just gave Colt cams site a look, perfect that they are here in Canada, our shop's main distributor carries them..deceeent! Dumb question tho, does the 2.9 have an overhead cam, or is it set in the lower portion of the block? I have a cracked driver side head so i'm looking to clean up the valvetrain/rockers, head, and the cam all in one shot, cam pending on its location in the motor. Anyways, thanks again for the replies, they help alot!

no.... it is internal to the block
there might be some Mercur hypro's out there that went overhead cam....but those would be rare & power band in the upper RPM range.

He doesn't really give any good dimensions. The only thing he mentions about the rocker arm spacers is that the stock spring setups cause more damage than good. Mixture of the low amount of oil being pumped to the valve train combined with the pressure from the springs that the push rods erode the thrust surfaces away. All that's stated as far has how big is to make sure there that each side of the rocker shaft has a combined side clearance of .020-.030" (.010-.015 for each rocker arm). So you will have to do some measuring.

Edit: Find/call a cam manufacturer, tell him what you want to do, and they will usually spec out something for your application.
