manual trans spedo questions 2.3 ranger

I have a 92 2.3 2 wheel drive ford ranger with a mazda 5 speed.... The trans is out of a 87 ranger the spedo gear in the trans had a different tooth count than the original... I don't remember the numbers(it was 2 years ago) the 87 had a cable and the 92 an electronic sensor... does anyone know what color gear to put on the truck to correct my problem?? I dont want to change the gear in the trans but hopefully change the gear on the sensor to correct my spedo ( which reads slower than my actual speed..) Any help would be greatly appreciated or any links to mazda trans specs Thanks Frank

How many teeth on the gear you have now? How far off is the speedo? At 50 mph each tooth changes the speedo about 7mph.

when the spedo reads 50 my actual speed is about 63

actually each tooth is about a 3mph change, but that depends on
what DRIVING gear is inside the trans.

where can i find out what driving gear is in an 87 trans compared to a 92??
