302 in ranger carb or efi?

Looks like a pretty good likeness of him to me in animation.:icon_confused:

I gotta say that it looks more like Stalin to me, but whatever. It's funny.

Yea, you're right, I get the two confused. Neither are what you'd call role models.

You're talking about on what block ? If on a 302 block, Edelbrock makes em now, as well as on the Windsor block and the Cleveland.

351 Cleveland CJ block with 2V heads. Currently running a F351 Edelbrock 4V intake on 2V heads with a 650 Holley (vacuum secondary).

You've got me confused now. You should already have a 4 bbl intake that fits the 2bbl ports. Unless maybe you've got the 4 bbl head version of it. That intake (if memory serves me) came in two versions, one for 2bbl heads, the other for 4 bbl heads. I think it still does. Log onto Edelbrock's website, it'll have em listed there.

Carbs have many advatages over EFI....espically on the trail.

If you lose a componet on the EFI system and it runs like shit....whats the chanses Vice grip and a screwdriver will fix it?

You ose a fuel pump on an EFI, your screwed. On a carb a big piece of rubber hose and a 5 gal can strapped to the roof will get you home.

You roll your vehicle over. A carb will stall before the engine has a chance to drain all the oil from the crankcase to other parts of the engine. EFI will keep it running while it beats the hell out of your mains and rods, and every other componet on the bottom end.

EFI is good for the soccor moms minivan. BUt in a real truck drivin by a real man who wants real performance and the satisfaction knowing that he can tune it himself, carbs are the way to go.

Besides, you can tune, setup, and fix carbs a helluva lot cheaper then EFI.

The 2150 motorcraft carb isnt the best powerwise (there only rated at 335CFM or somewhere thereabouts), but there probely one of the best on angles.

Holley makes a Hi-Po 500CFM 2bbl that will bolt right to any 2bbl ford manifold. Based off the design of the 2150.

Dustin

I. In a 302 swap in my 88 ranger and need a little help with electrical efi issues because I'm going carberated. If I go pre obd2 shouldn't that be pretty straight forward?

Factory 351 c 2 barrel heads have large ports, 351 c 4 barrel heads have cavernous ports that kill bottom end. I think Edelbrock makes a 4 barrel manifold specifically for the 2v heads.

I can move the throttle 1/16 of an inch and feel instant response with a Holley carb, much better than EFI and drive by wire is even more sluggish. The key is properly setting up the carb and distributor advance curve. My 77 Mustang came from Ford making 139 hp with a 302 and turning 17.7 in the quarter- according to magazine tests- and struggled to get better than 12 mpg. The current set up has turned 13.8 @ 102mph and easily gets 20 mpg if driven like an adult. I swapped my son's shiny P.O.S. Edelbrock onto it once, the response was soggy

and it cost me 3 tenths. My Ranger has a 351 with a stock 95 F150 roller cam, 1.7 rockers, an Offenhauser dual port, and a Holley. It got a steady 16 mpg all summer doing a lot of in town driving. My 2011 Ranger had a 4.0 sohc and an automatic, was all original, and almost never got 16 mpg in town.
