Distributor options for DuraSpark swap

Good morning/afternoon/evening.
I am working on a friend's Bronc2 that has the 2.8. I have convinced this friend to perform an ignition and carburetor swap to simplify the motor so she can perform her own maintenance with ease going forward. I am able to find all parts locally for a duraspark swap other than the distributor itself. The Cardone has been out of production for years and no junkyards nearby have a pinto, mustang2, capri etc. Are there any aftermarket distributors that I can retrofit to use in the 2.8? I really like the HEI swap that I did in my 300, so something as seamless as that would be wonderful. I have no preference regarding duraspark, pertronix, HEI, points whatever as long as I can pull all the crap off the motor and stick a Holley on there. Alternatively, does anyone in Western Oregon have a duraspark distributor they would be willing to sell?

Just so everyone is aware, I edited the topic and post here and removed questions about emissions deletes.

"DuraSpark swap" and "emissions delete" are two totally separate topics. Please do not discuss the latter here. Emission deletes are a violation of federal law, several companies have faced huge fines recently for that.

If you search through the 2.8 forum, you will find countless threads identical to yours and they contain some available options for distributors. I will leave this thread open in case anyone local to you has a distributor to sell.

The biggest issue with soliciting advice for what you asked for is the liability of the site owner... If the site owner allows people to do this, someday the fuzz will notice and go after him for fostering the environment.

That said, with all rangers 83 forward being computer controlled OBD1 and then OBD2 it is basically impossible to retain the computer and have them just ignore missing pieces, so unless you are talking about basically buying a early 60's vehicle and putting a ranger body on it....

FWIW, I added emissions stuff to my '48. Not computer controlled crap that is a headache to diagnose, just changed the road draft tube to a PCV valve and the such - made it a lot nicer to drive around and not smell the nastyness coming out of the crank case.

Best advice I have buy an OBD1/OBD2 scanner, it makes dealing with all the emissions stuff possible, without it you are guessing and lighting up the $$$ parts cannon. $25-$33 for a scanner is about as cheap as half tank of gas. Everyone who drives a vehicle regardless of age, gender, or "car smarts" should have one, should just be a mandatory part of owning a car.

You probably wont get advice on the first thing you asked for from any forum, not here, bronco owners, explorer world, ford-trucks, nowhere - same story, not worth it for the site owners to allow that to happen.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. I am in a locale where this hasn't ever been an issue and was none the wiser. Apologies for the inconvenience. PCV etc is not a problem just want to get rid of the computer-controlled timing and have things more mechanical and intuitive like in the 68... just distributor, coil, carb, pcv. That Accuspark looks like a potential option. Thank you.

If that is a legit product, it should work fine, just be aware that it's the Bosch style that requires different plug wires.

That seller has a lot of negative feedback which is somewhat concerning.

yep. I used one years ago because that’s all I could find. Worked fine other than the plug wires being different.

So I have a bit of an update: I called Cardone and the representative said that the part number, 30-2691, is currently out of stock. However, he did say that they are supposed to be available again in about 4 weeks time. He even listed a few business in the area which should be able to ask their distributors for.

Let us know if it actually happens and what the price is. I've got a 2.8L I'd like to put back into serice someday. Wouldn't mind having a spare sitting on the shelf for it. May have to go HEI or some other aftermrket option instead of duraspark on the ignition box, but that distributor should have either covered with a connector change/adaptation.

I will inform this forum. Funny thing happened to me this weekend; I went to two junkyards near me. Saw 11 Rangers, 5 or 6 BIIs, no Mustang IIs, a Pinto whose entire engine was missing, and believe it or not- a Capri! You never see those here in America, at least not around here you don't... Of course the carb and distributor on the V6 were gone...
