My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Forgive me if this isn't the right place for this.

Ever since I got my new phone I've had to manually resize all the pictures I upload that have been taken by my camera. The pictures it takes are too large.. 8160x6144.

I remember seeing the max pixel dimensions SOMEWHERE on here.. I swear.. but I'm having no luck now..

How big should I be resizing these? I've been using free resizing apps and locking the ratio and then making it 2144x(whatever it is).. but I have no idea if that's a good size or not lol.. my only means of getting online is my phone. They look sized alright on my phone but idk what desktop people are seeing..

If you get it in the ballpark, the forum will do the rest. I normally get the large dimension down to 1920 or 1280 with the aspect ratio locked. Also, if your software gives the option, you could save at a lower quality for smaller file size. Most phones have image editing software included. I'm not sure why you have to use an online tool.

On a newer Samsung, go i to your gallery and select a photo. Click on it to get the editing tools.

In the upper right corner, tap on the 3 dots to open a menu like this. Then select "resize".

Then you can choose the size you want.

Thank you. I've been all through the camera settings and have yet to find anything about changing the saved file size.. but it is a Google phone and Google sucks so 🤷🏻‍♀️ lol.

If necessary, install an editing app. I would recommend Photoshop Express. I don't know if there is a free version. I get it as part of my Adobe subscription.

That is one thing that drives me nutz is the max image size that cripples other forums, some require to post a picture, you must go through a 3rd party website. But with TRS, I simply copy & paste. Thank you TRS!

Jim does a great job of keeping this place functional and easy to use.

I'll check it out!

Another option is a photo sharing site like Imjr. They don't seem to have the limits that the forums do and it's easy enough to copy and paste the link into a post so that the photo shows. That is what I do most of the time. Plus, it gives me the ability to download it later to the computer later if it is something I want to save.

I have more photos on Imgur than I do on my phone... In fact every photo I've ever posted online is in my Imgur account and some I haven't.

My new iPhone take pictures that are a little too big also. I screen shot and crop them. Seems to work fine that way but a major pain. I haven’t found any way to resize them without doing this but I haven’t looked real hard either.
