Where is it located and what are the wire colors? Perhaps add a picture zoomed out a bit more for context.

Do you have an image that's not so close up?
I'm having a hard time associating where it is located and I don't want to guess. If it is near the underhood fuse box it could be an un-used plug for an option you do not have. An image from further away would help me reference where the plug is.. I just replaced the entire harness in my 94 and there were several that were not used.

Not to worry though as someone will come along with a better answer

It doesn’t let me upload the pictures but the connection has 2 black wires with white stripes it is right under the power distribution box.

Ill check my evtm tonight

That helps ...gimme a minute..

Couple more questions about your Ranger:
Engine?
Transmission?
2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive?

It is a V6 4.0 manual 4 wheel drive.

Looking at the EVTM...could be the RABS test connector, page 152-5

EDIT: wire colors don't match...back to the drawing board...
Only other thing I can find at this point without going outside and pulling the power dist box is a Tachoneter SErvice Connector - in which case it would not have anything connected to it.

I have an image of the conector in the harness, but not in place on the truck...

That sounds like the connector that I just removed from my truck. IF it is, both wires go the ground terminal on the battery.

My best guess is "tachometer service connector C-1005". I see it in the location maps on page 151-1 and 151- 6. But I haven't found it anywhere else in the book yet.

Don't confuse it with C-105. That's a bigger connector with more wires. Anyway, you don't need to worry about it unless troubleshooting a tach problem on a 3.9l or 4.0l engine, in which case, you will probably run into the proper procedure somewhere.

going out to pull the power box now. Back in about an hour with- hopefully - a better idea.
I hope the OP hasn't deserted us yet...

There are 2 BK/W wires labeled PWR Ground going to (among other things) pins 40 and 60 of the ECU. With the harness out, it should be pretty easy to verify that.
