Check out these two Rangers for sale (and now a Bronco II)

Salvage Ranger #1: This is about 15 minutes from me. It's a 1987 Ford Ranger 4x4 long bed with a Dark Walnut exterior and Chestnut interior. It has factory A/C. Don't know what's wrong with it. Bill of sale (In Texas you can get a bonded title). I dig the patina. I'd fix it up, polish the paint, clear or linseed oil the patina, add some white wheels and a white 80's farm style grill guard, paint a logo on the doors, and use it as my shop truck to haul stuff in. Check It Out.

Salvage Ranger #2: This one is about 2-hours away. It's a 1987 Ford Ranger 2WD. It's listed as a long bed, but that looks like a short bed to me. I said I wasn't going to build another white truck, but I dig this one as well. It already has white wheels. I'd clean it up, convert it to 4WD (I know where there's a frame with a D35, t-case, and transmission) and convert it into a shop truck as well. I wouldn't repaint it, just clean it and add a logo, grill guard, etc to make it look like an old farm truck or service garage truck. Again, this would be for me to haul stuff in since TRS-1 has a cage in the bed and TRS-2 has a bed rack. Check it out.

I see people paint 'patina' onto trucks. I really dig the first truck with the real patina. It would look cool with a white TRS logo painted on the door and weathered. Create something like this, but more of a TRS Garage truck.
They both need a ton of work... but if you can talk the guy into 800 for the brown one and go snag the white one for the listed 600, you got most of what you need to make the brown one into a decent shop truck. you got the white wagon wheels, take the tailgatte and back bumper off the white one and put on the brown one, and if the brown one does need floorboards, the white one may be a donor for that. Interior other than the carpet in the brown one looks ok, but the dash is kind of ratty looking, not sure if all the parts are there to fix it. once you get the parts off the white one that you need, you can sell the white one as is, scrap it or part it out to get some of your money back.

If I had time and was closer I would consider the brown one at least...

The white Ranger sold pretty fast. It's rare to find anything under $1,000. Even a non-running shit box is $1,000. I'm going to try and go look at the brown one next week when it warms up. I'm going to have to be prepared to pay at least $1,000 if I want it though. Then I have to figure out what it's going to cost me to fix it and get it back on the road. I need another truck like I need a crazy girlfriend, but it would be nice to have that 7-foot bed to haul stuff in (no, I don't want a trailer).

I see that truck and I see a model truck @Bone_Ranger built.

How badly do you want a sub $1k long bed... there are always rangers around here for about $1k ish or less... right now I could point you to several short boxes but at this second no long ones.... like a crazy girlfriend.

it's a short bed, but this is typical of what I see a lot of around me:

But think of all the extra stuff you can haul and do if you had a trailer!!!

I would shoot for the brown one. Its already 4wd.

That white one was/is for sure a shortbox.

I wouldnt pay 2k for it though. But even if you could get it for 1000-1500 spend another 1000ish on a good motor/trans and youd be rolling somewhat cheap given todays insane prices

The four things that worry me about the brown one is that some of the tan interior trim pieces are missing, it has an A4LD transmission, it doesn't sound like the seller knows what's wrong with it, and it comes with a bill of sale so I'd have to get a bonded title.

The plantlife growing on the DS floor invokes a level of PTSD for me. Something is leaking. A LOT

I didn't have the plantlife...

And after you fix that you still have the leak. Mine was the windshield leaking inside of the A pillar. Cowls are common to rot out which makes the floor repair look like swapping wiper blades.

Tans not super rare is it? I would think if you wernt in a hurry you could find the pieces.

I have no clue how a bonded title works in texas....i know in michigan you basically put up enough money to cover the book value untill its been so long...a year i think. I cant imagine the cost would be crazy on that truck

As far as whats wrong you might get lucky. When i bought my B2 the kid thought it needed a rebuild...an FPR, timing adjust, and a few wires it runs like a top.

Shit thats nothing. My rangers carpet was green when i got it. Sealed the windsheild with some silicone stuff and it stays pretty dry now.

Ever look under the carpet?

Ever look under the carpet?
Nope.

If you dont know an issue exists....it doesnt. :)

But in all seriousness yes the floors are bad. Not so much the pans but back by the seat area oddly enough. Really it needs a cab.

I had to weld a new floor pan into TRS-1. This truck has a Dallas Texas DSO code on the federal sticker and I suspect it's always been a Texas truck. The rust is probably just light surface rust, but it does concern me that the carpet has fungus growing on it.

If you don’t look at, does rust even exist?
No. In fact, the longer you ignore it, the less likely it is to be there when you do look.
