Stupid Clutch QD Fitting Fix ?

So I have a new clutch slave installed just over 1000 miles ago and last Saturday just cruising along the clutch line pops off the trans at the QD fitting.

Some sluething here told me the issue and I have it towed to a mechanic to see what the issue is and he says the clip is pooched and it needs a new slave.

My question here is, while searching for 'fixes' people have done is there anything you can do to make this a 'permanent' fix and get rid of the silly QD part ? I found the AN line adapter but it still uses the factory female portion of the QD and that's what I want to get rid of altogether.

When I got away for road trips in hundreds of miles in the bush and something as ridiculous as the pos QD thing needs to GO.

I made a secondary clip to hold it, kind of as a belt and suspenders sort of thing

I was thinking along two different lines...

1)Buy a new slave, remove the roll pin from the hsg that holds on the inlet line and QD fitting and replace it with one about two inches longer with an AN compression fitting then use a braided line.
2)Do what (I think) you are talking about and drill/tap a few holes in the bell housing then mill up a plate to hold the rear of the male disconnect (the hydraulic line part) in so it physically cannot back out. This makes it a mechanical stop. I would use a urathane slide buffer from a 1911 as a medium to stop rubbing wear and maintain pressure on the fitting.

Am I close ?

Use a pick to remove the cage clip from the slave quick connect fitting, bend the fingers inwards a little bit so that they catch better, and reassemble it. That's been the permanent fix for me if this happens unless the hose end is damaged (happens a lot from road salt.)

Someone used to make slave cylinders that had a cage clip and a hair pin clip for backup. I used to see it on some trucks around 93-94 model years - the hose was different as well. I can't find them on RockAuto now, maybe they were discontinued.

Option 1 there is the way to go if you really wanna get rid of it...

I was sort of leaning to this as well...

Just make it a non issue in the future unless the slave itself fails.

Thanks for your ideas guys, really appreciate the positive feedback.

Is this a recently recurring issue? I have replaced the slave cylinder on mine a few times and never had an issue. It has been a few years though.

I think I had it happen once or twice but always with a slave cylinder that I reused or in one case I just didn't push the hose in far enough. The fingers on the clip are super easy to bend so it wouldn't surprise me if just bending them back a bit fixes it indefinitely.

@lil_Blue_Ford yes, I had some pop out even on brand new slaves and lines. It's mainly an issue with Perfection (and rebranded as many parts store's private label) slaves that use the big flat hair pin clip. The finger style ones are far superior in holding power but suck to get apart after a few years in the rust belt.

@VonRicky option two is what I chose to do, all I did was make a clip out of sheetmetal with the edges bent up to add some rigidity to it. My truck uses the earlier style slave cylinder where the fitting is almost inside the bellhousing, so it's more simple to make that work.

If you've got the ability to make an adapter for an AN fitting, that would be the way to go. Even just a piece that has female NPT threads would be nice, then you could screw on an adapter and call it a day.

I had it happen once and it cost me $243 for the tow. Now it's costing another tow fee to get it to the mechanic and then his fee to put in a new slave. .

This comprehension fitting for the tube the QD now sits on :

Then a dry break AN-3 quick disconnect like this for the hydraulic line :

This keeps the 'Quick Disconnect' feature for future maintenance or modifications but is waaaaay more professional and not prone to the stupidity of the factory part.
