Bleeding Brakes On A 98 B3000

What's the proper (best) way to bleed the rear brakes on a 98 B3000 2WD

1. top off brake fluid in the master cylinder
2. get a helper
3. have said helper pump the brake pedal 3-4 times (all the way down, then all the way back up...holding it down after the last pump)
4. crack the right rear slave cylinder bleed screw, tighten after fluid/air flow stops
5. repeat steps 3 and 4 until no air comes through bleeder.
6. repeat 3-5 on left rear bleeder, then right front, then left front. even if you didnt open the front brakes, ALWAYS bleed to whole system to purge all air.

So I have never bled the brakes on my truck and I have owned it for 6 years. I dont know if its ever been done. I always check the level and its always been right at the top so i figured its all good. I would like to flush the whole system out and refill. What is the best way to get the old fluid out? How much brake fluid will I need to refill the whole system? From what I read online it seems like a pretty simple process. just have someone pump the breaks as you adjust the set screw.

Any other suggestions?

to flush the system, you can use the same procedure i outlined for bleeding...just repeat steps 3 and 4 at each wheel until clean fluid comes out.

one of those big bottles of brake fluid (a pint?) is usually more than enough.

You missed a key step to that method.

Pedal pusher must notify you as pedal drops so you can CLOSE the bleeder before it hits the floor!

tighten after fluid/air flow stops

pedal position doesnt have anything to do with, pressure in the lines is whats important. if you tighten the bleeder after the flow stops, you'll be fine.

Yeah, you're right.

I emphasize that step during the pre-bleed briefing because my pedal pusher is my wife. You can be sure she'll release the pedal and suck air, if not forewarned and reminded several times. With my method, she's concentrating on not letting the pedal hit the floor.
