Hey Good Morning everyone,
I'm here seeking assistance about a transmission I have a 2000 ford ranger XLT bought it this year January , it has a manual 5spd Transmission it was swap from being an original automatic transmission. The engine is a 3.0 litre 6 cylinder RWD , Also to note the transmission is from a ford but I can't identify the year of the transmission it has whining in it . Part number as a sticker has ( F27A XA A723022 ) Would appreciate any assistance to identify the year of it .

Most likely an M5OD-R1. I think that's what came in all the 3.0L manual Rangers. I don't think that the 3.0L came in anything else that could have provided a RWD transmission.

F = 1990's
2 = Second year of the 90's - Which makes it a 1992
7 = Foreign = in this case Mazda
A = Light Truck Engineering Division = In this case Ranger

So it's from a 1992 Ranger

Hey joshT I'm in bine here trying to deal with this transmission trying to get some advice if that's ok with you . It has a whining in 3rd an 5th gear there no grinding or kicking out gears . the day it started I parked it immediately there after took it to a mechanic they went thru the entire trans . I do basic mechanic not in depth to transmission . there advice is saying the shafts inside are bad everything else is fine he says there a bit worn an the whining isn't going to stop unless I find those or change the trans completely I'm ok to change the trans . my question is to which specific transmission I swap it too which year? which transmission would I be looking for ?

Thank you .. Much appreciate the specific breakdown

I'm no transmission mechanic either.

The first thing I'd do is check fluid level. Mechanic should have done that, but we all make mistakes, so if verify for myself. Usually a fill plug in the side of the transmission and you fill until that level. Beyond that, I have no idea.

As for a replacement. You have to use a 3.0 transmissions for compatible bell housing. The M5OD-R1 appear to be the only manual transmission used behind that engine in a truck. There are no electronics to change over the years. You should be able to use the manual transmission out of any Ranger 3.0L or Mazda B3000. If yours is 2wd you need a 2wd transmission, for a 4wd you need a 4wd.

That's the only guidance I can give. I have no experience with that engine or transmission, so I can't say that I haven't missed something.
