1998 b4000 high beam indicator not working

Wondering if someone could point me towards the right path.


I need to pass safety since I moved and they won't pass my truck because of the missing high beam indicator. Low/high beam works same as turn signals.


1: I switched with an other working bulb and it won't work also tested trace on flex circuit boar and they work fine.
2: all my bulb beside the small 74 are LED inside the gauge cluster.
3:my headlights are also LED aftermarket sped D tuning but everything works no problem.

I would put a regular bulb in it and try it. I know on the larger trucks, some of them have problems with this bulb if they change it to LED. If your truck has DRL's, it has a network of resistors and a diode that could interfere with a LED bulb.

I just try putting in the 55w halogen that the aftermarket headlight came with and its still not working.

I might just bypass the grey/white wire that goes to the DRL and wire it straight to the high beam wire shown in the 2nd picture (S122), it just sucks that its the only thing preventing me from passing safety.

I thought you meant the high beam bulb in the cluster was LED? That is the one I would change if it is LED.

Not the 74 bulb I didn't bother changing them the LED ones are for the main gauge and I remember the high beam working after I changed those.

I think I found the problem tho, I believe the DRL module is dead as I remember my lights flashing uncontrollably 6 months ago. Today I've check all the connections and continuity of the circuit and everything is good. I don't feel like paying 150$ for a new module so I will go to a yard and get one used off a old pickup.

Looking at your diagram, the DRL module feeds the light in the dash. I wonder if you have a problem with the DRL module? Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think the DRL's are the highbeam lights with resistors to dim them a little bit? That would explain why the light in the dash is fed by the module, it would be on all the time if it was hooked directly to the high beam circuit like a non-DRL truck. You might be on to something with the re-wire, but you might have to take more of the drl feature out.

The DRL module was bad replaced it and now it’s working cheers
