I hit a big pothole yesterday and now my oil pressure gauge and my temp gauge went out. The truck started running odd. Got it home shut it off now it won't start. It cranks but won't run. The msd 6al is getting 12 volts the coil doesn't seem to be getting 12 volts. the light flashes 5 times on the box when I turn the key on. Which supposedly indicates the box is working. It's getting fuel I can smell after cranking. It's a 90 2.3 dash harness and 90 5.0 mustang a9l and harness. I would like to make the show on Saturday. Does anyone have those wiring diagrams and ideas? I ordered a new coil and msd box but they only come Thursday.

sounds like you knocked a wire off something.

clamp jumper cables on your block and then to the frame and battery negative and see if it starts and runs better. if so, its one of your engine grounds.

if its not that, you just need to look at every connection and see what popped off

Agree with the previous post, and in addition, is your battery securely clamped down? If the battery is able to move around, and hitting a pothole started electrical problems, don't forget to take a good look at the battery's connections, both at the battery itself and at where each wire or cable from it terminates on the truck side.

Battery is tight and cables pcm grounds good msd box is working coil working. It runs again but still no temp or oil pressure gauge. Normally my cold air intake doesn't make that loud Huaaaaaa sound all the pipe and connectors seem tight. Still looking for any wires that maybe an issue tomorrow is another day. Something still seems off. Rpms drop faster than normal.

but still no temp or oil pressure gauge.

I'd run that issue down, fix it, and then see if "that something still seems off" is still there, along with those other things that don't seem like they were before the pothole.

Besides, those gauges are kind of important.

Those guages on Ford's are kinda like dummy lights. I could get a real sending unit and mechanical guages, (atleast oil pressure anyway) but I'm not sure where to look without the schematics and I can't find them in the library for pre 93 I think it was. I gotta keep looking on line.

After almost an hour at Mcguire Ford taking pictures of most of the pages of the master wiring book for a 90 mustang and 90 ranger. Then two hours of poking and prodding, The truck is fixed. The salt shaker came unplugged on the mustang harness..... of course it was something simple and thankfully it was. Also got the alternator swapped out for one that doesn't fluctuate like crazy... autozone parts are getting worse.

Found the box online but won't be here till next week.... or the next but I got alot of pictures also.

Good work!

That's a new one on me; what in the hell is a "salt shaker"?

i was wondering that too

I think OP is referring to the (salt and pepper) connectors under the hood. They are the interface between the engine harness and dash harness on Fox era Mustangs.
