Today the news is saying that officers became suspicious of the shooter when he entered the security area with a range finder. At one point he was looking at sniper positions through the range finder and they were looking back at him. They lost track of him when he left and returned with a backpack. He was able to climb onto an air conditioner and then onto the roof.

He had explosives in his car and had a remote detonator on him. He had a bicycle stashed nearby.

This story just gets worse for the Secret Service. Sounds like the only thing missing was him holding up a sign that says I'm here to shoot Trump.
Were state police unable to communicate with SS for some reason? The layers of this just keep getting more bizarre.

this only happened because its a republican that needed security. if it was a democrat, everything would have been done proper and the sniper would not have been allowed anywhere near.

this is the normal bullshit where one party can do anything and get away with it but the other can't and when they actually can do something, they won't.

so we have one bully party and one wussy party

On Zero Hedge, there are a bunch of loony leftists that are whining about the failure of the assassination. Just absolutely nuts that anyone would hope someone got killed in that fashion. Trump would have felt nothing, but everyone in the immediate vicinity would have been covered with the result. Sicko!

Yes, that bastion of reliable information.

Totally agree, that’s a really sick and hate-filled view to whine about the failed assassination. To wish murder on anyone who doesn’t absolutely deserve it is sick. And really, under today’s society, that should be considered terroristic threats to whine about the failed attempt to murder a former President. Just how much hate and anger do you have to have in your body to wish murder on someone you’ve never even met?

The rumor I’m hearing is that there were few to no actually Secret Service there and most of Trump‘s team was seconded from Department of Homeland Security. In related news, there was a bunch of Democrats doing publicity things on the same day that used up most of the available SS agents. Not going to call conspiracy, but it sure sounds suspicious like that.

I’m also hearing that sniper teams had the shooter in sight for up to three minutes prior to the start of shooting but were denied permission to fire. Of course, they could have shot to wound at that point so they have a live body to question instead of a corpse, which had to happen after the shooting started. Again, kind of suspicious.

Also, supposedly a police officer was boosted up to the roof to take a look prior to the shooting and said the shooter aimed at him so he let go of the edge of the roof and that was that.

That’s the stuff I’ve been hearing the most, and being relatively local to the spot, I’m thinking there may be a grain or two of truth to these. But they also raise questions and grave concerns… if there is any truth to these, but I’m thinking there’s likely some truth…

That's pretty much what I'm seeing on the back channels.

I saw a video segment of the Secret Service director saying something about there not being anyone posted on that building due to sloped roof and it being bad for the snipers. Well, seems to me like snipers are trained to take shots from much worse positions, not to mention the buildings they were positioned on behind the platform also had sloped roofs. WTF is that woman thinking?

As said many times, whole thing is a massive CF!

Supposedly the police told the SS that they didn't have enough manpower to cover it days before this happened. Jill Biden was in Pittsburgh the same day. It would be interesting to see how many agents she had.

It's alarming that the shooter was a person of interest for a long as he was, and the SS still let Trump go up on the stage before they detained the guy to see if he was a threat.

Incredible that they spotted him on the roof 20 minutes before he took his shot.

When I was a Trooper, you weren't allowed to make excuses. You just accepted the responsibility. I can't stand that the SS keeps trying to put this on the police. It was the Secret Service's detail. It was their responsibility to make sure that area was covered. If the police couldn't do it, then they should have put someone else on it. I'm sure if they called the Pennsylvania State Police, they could have found an extra Trooper they could have sent over. If someone calls off work on the Ford Ranger assembly line, Ford still produces Rangers. They just find someone else to cover that job. They don't shut down production and blame the employee.

Off topic a bit....

Todays presidential candidates seem to constantly speak negativity. Hears a little Reagan humor for you.

I've read that this kid's high school rifle team rejected him and asked him not to come back back because he was such a bad shot? And this AM I read that he posted on Steam this message:
"July 13 will be my premiere, watch as it unfolds."

Could it possibly this simple: He was pissed at being rejected and wanted to prove something?
Or could the whole thing be a set-up?

Most of my reading is from Fox, so there is that to consider....
I have to stop.

Interesting theory... but I did hear he posted that too.

Trump should have never been put on stage with the activity that was noted... until the known threat was apprehended and venue cleared. It's a total failure of that security detail.

For anyone that shoots regularly... that was a chip shot. I have the "cat on a hot tin roof" theory. That roof had to be screaming hot... bare skin on a metal roof had to be painful and impossible to settle in. Although... he could have been that bad.

Whatever it was... thank God.

Sadly... I feel there will be zero transparency with all the details or accountability to those that failed.

...or maybe they knew about all of that, knew how bad of a shot he was, and dismissed him as a threat because of it. That would explain taking out the telehandler. Maybe the hits were just lucky shots. That blind squirrel gets a nut thing.

Nah, that doesn't sound any better. It was just incompetence.

One other thing...

Does his high school actually have a rifle team? I thought it was a rifle team from a local gun club.

I can't imagine a public school rifle team... but I could be wrong.
