So when I first got the truck, the a little vacuum line that I guess helped with shifting was kinked and prevented my transmission from shifting by itself and I had to manually shift through the gears and my overdrive would never engage. But after I found the problems and replaced the hose and got my automatic transmission back but some thing struck me as sort of odd. So, the regular 3-speed tops out at 55-60, and the overdrive engages around 50, but if I keep speeding up (not flooring it but just getting up to speed) to about 60-65 and then I set it on cruise control, it acts like it downshift shifts because goes from 2k rpm to about 2300-2500rpm. What does this mean? I know it’s probably nothing bad, but what is happening to do all this?

Sounds like the torque converter is unlocking when you set the cruise.

Does it kick back down to around 2k once the cruise is set?

Ive never paid attention to if my E4OD doea this...but even if it dont its a totally different trans

Well, it does it when I start letting off on the gas when I get to my desired speed. Even if I hold it at 65 without cruise control on, it does the kick down thing. I really didn’t think about the torque converter unlocking

Hmm. Yeah if the converter unlocks youll gain a couple hundred rpm. But it shouldnt be unlocking on a steady cruise unless youre headed up a hill or something.

I know A4LD's are known for lockup solenoids going out....but im not sure the behavior that surrounds that.
