I love my 93 f-150 5.8 v8 4x4 because that truck has sentimental value to me my dad bought that truck for me

but sometimes i would like to buy a

2002-2003 ford f-150 5.4 v8 fx4 off road

or a 2001 - 2003 ford f-250 6.8 v10 4x4 or 7.3 v8 diesel a bigger truck would be fun but im not really a big truck type of guy.

Should i buy a ford f-150 4x4 or ford f-250 4x4

Im 32 years old with mild autism and my own money and job =)

Does it matter to you how much fuel a truck uses? I find fuel costs expensive so that is one of my top concerns when looking for a vehicle. On the other hand a work truck needs to have some power for towing trailers and healing heavy stuff, so fuel mileage isn't as important. What are you going to be using the truck for?

It doesn't really matter to me how much fuel a truck uses. I would be using the truck for daily driving i would not be using the truck for towing trailers and wouldn't be hauling heavy stuff

Its coming up on 10 years that i have had my 93 f-150 5.8 v8 4x4 that i own now.

What do you think of my 93 f-150 have you seen pictures of my blue f-150 ?? what do you think of the 5.8 v8 351 cubic inch windsor engine ??

I would buy a Ford ranger.

I've had 3 F150 from 03/04. 2 with the 5.4 and 1 with the 4.6. Then 5.4's died on me from cam phaser problems. The 4.6 had one cylinder die. I think the later years might be more reliable.
I haven't owned a 6.8 or 7.3.

If you don't have a need for the F-250, I'd go for the F-150. Unless someone gives you the F-250, then go that route.

The F-250 in gas is going to get the same or worse gas mileage as the F-150. The F-250 in diesel will likely get better fuel mileage at the trade off of higher price per gallon. You said you don't care about fuel mileage though. Both engines in the F-250 will likely be more expensive to maintain and repair than the F-150, I know the diesel will on oil changes alone.

You did say that you will be using it for "daily driving". I'm not sure if the published dimension agree, but the F-250 is physically going to be larger meaning it's going to take more space everywhere. The F-250 is going to have a larger turning radius, meaning that the F-250 is going to be better for making tighter turnes, backing and other things.

The F-250 4x4 uses a solid axle and leaf springs in the front, and has a stiffer suspension in general. The F-150 is going to be a better handling and more comfortable ride.

I'm sure I've seen pictures of your F-150, I know i've given my opinion of your F-150. If I had it, I wouldn't sell or trade it for anything. In my opinion that is the best body style and engine combination made in the last 45 years.

I would buy a Ford ranger.
I seriously have thought of buying my 2nd ranger if i was to buy my 2nd ranger i would buy a 1999-2000 4.0 v6 4x4 with maybe the smaller fun flareside bed because the 1999-2000 is 2 of my favorite years for that body style and i haven't owned a flareside bed ranger i like the smaller look and feel of the flareside =)

Do you have pictures of your 3 f-150s ? what did you think of your 5.4 and 4.6 engines ? are you really not a big truck type of guy either ? did your 3 f-150s have 4wd ?

What do you think of the older 5.8 v8 351 engine ?

I seriously considered getting a 2nd ranger of the same because the flare side is my favorite too. After a long time of consideration I'ma try an get a bronco 2.

I don't have pics.
They were good engines when they ran, and not too hard on fuel.
All 4x4.
No opinion on 5.8
They were all work trucks. I use a car or ranger for daily driver.

5.4 didn't have cam phasers until 2004. 97-03 2 valve engines were pretty good.

Just keep the 93.

@Gary DuBois ,
If I knew that I would need to haul anything of sufficient mass, there is no question what I would own, a 99-03 Ford 4x4, F-250 or 350 turbo diesel 7.3l augmented with the complete BANKS POWERPACK Bundle. A coworker of mine had an 01 extra cab long bed, full Banks POWERPACK setup on 38" rubber, 8" lift...felt like it would do a wheelie from a dead stop. That rig made 25 mpg no matter how he drove it; towing it managed 20 mpg!!!

Again, if I knew that I would need to tow, that is what I would own; if I did not go have specific tow duties to handle but needed a truck, I would own a 1st gen Ranger.

Ever consider toning the claims down mildly so we wouldn't laugh quite so hard reading them?

Does the truck you have do the job you need it to do? If not, then why look for another one?

If the truck you have is in good running condition, I would keep it. You know it's condition and how it runs. Buying s used truck is always a gamble, especially if you are going to have to pay someone else to fix whatever issues it might have. For example, look at ericphoto's f250 thread and what he has had to fix on it. He has the advantage of being able to fix the problems himself.

If you still decide you want to move to a new to you F150 with the 5.4, make sure it's the 2 valve and not the 3 valve. The 3 valve phaser problems are expensive to take care of and require quite a bit of work.

I don't recall hearing much in a way of issues with the 351 engines.

The diesel engines are usually more reliable, durable, and fuel efficient but when it comes time to do maintenance on them, parts are more expensive and when it comes time for a mechanic to work on it, there are going to be times you will need a diesel mechanic. Your average garage is not going to cut it.
