1 ton versus 2 ton engine hoist?

For me, that means there won't be enough height.... I have my torsion bars cranked all the way up :icon_twisted:

I have a 2" suspension lift and 1" body lift. The 1 ton got my 4.0L and manual over the support.

Marketplace is normally good for used cherry pickers too.

for what little extra the 2 ton costs I would get it.
a longer boom will have less arc when lifting, makes the lift more vertical.
my 2 ton gets the hook up to about 9 feet so it could be used for larger stuff.
quite a few years ago it held my son's punching bag.

Gosh, usually! But at the moment everything is either a) too far away or b) just as expensive as a new one. And the only guys renting hoists near me are random guys on FB marketplace, not a legit rental business.

note blocks under the wheels with the 4 banger.
I had the 3.0 way up there.
using the chain hoist I was able to be under the truck and lower it very slowly for maneuvering.
worked solo on both.

Whenever you get one, don't sell it off thinking you wont use it again. A few weeks later you will need to pull an engine, suddenly.

I know this the expensive way

I bought an air over hydraulic ram for my hoist. Then I extended the air hose so I could be underneath to guide the motor/ trans over any obstacles while lifting. Its saved me lots of up and down, which bad knees don't like.
Also picked up a medi-lift for dirt cheap. Used that to swap motors in my neon...

While it shouldn't be a problem going with the 1 ton, bear in mind that each notch the arm gets extended, the less weight the puller can lift. If I remember correctly, the lift rating is something like 500# at full extension. It was enough to pull the 2.5 Lima out of the '98, which is a cast iron block and head. Certainly not a light weight engine and probably about the same weight as the V-6 engines.
