Auto zone....hell I'm gonna try taking it off. If my muffler will bolt up to it I'm gonna bypass if possible.

Just pull out the upstream O2 sensor first, see if it makes a difference

You don't always get the better prices from the guys at the parts place. You can check most prices online, check at auto zone, let it save your car or truck model. Do the same at Oreillies, pep boys, whatever you have nearby.
Twisting bolts isn't rocket science, putting it up on jacks and jack stands takes a bit of consideration, just mainly keep it flat and straight up and down, and always chock at least two wheels with a 4x4x8 inch solid wood block bumped into place w/ at least one fore and aft

Can I drive it without the 02 sensor out? That's the only way I'm going to be able to tell if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the advice. That's exactly what I use. Lost a very good friend to a jack falling, the car fell on him and killed him. Safety first always!

I thought you said it wouldn't REV past 2,000?

Just get a Vacuum gauge and test it that way

since we can't see what is going on from the internet we need to get an over all view from you.
which means asking lots of questions.
have you crawled under and thoroughly inspected the entire exhaust system?
is the check engine light on?
is there a rodent nest in the air filter box?
did your fuel mileage recently go from bad to horrible?
if you put the gear selector in 1 will it go past 2000?
in normal operation how fast will it go on flat ground?

disclaimer: I've been watching too many mechanics horror stories videos lately

lastly, stop by an auto parts place to have the codes read. many will do it for free.

Yes, exhaust system looks fine, check engine light is on, changed the air filter (there was nothing in the box), fuel mileage the same. Yes it will go past 2000 rpms just not going up a hill. I can't get to a parts store. I live in upper east tn. Closest town is 25 miles away and MANY longs hills to climb. I'll just have to buy an OBD scanner when I get a ride to town. Oh and yes it does fine on flat ground, takes gas great.

You'll likely do as well to get the scanner on amazon

Turn around and back it up the hills :D

Curious....how does it do at high rpm? Like if you hammer on it to pass someone?

Ok, I tried something I read about, checking the temperature going in the cat and out and it's pretty much the same. It's finally stopped raining so I'm gonna go and take the 02 sensor out. Just wanna give a giant thanks to all of ya'll help and advice

Doesnt an 04 have 2 cats?

Be careful with those jacks, you really need two, you also need a set of jack stands. If you have a You-Pull-It Yard or similar there a Ford factory jack is $8 here and a small fee for 1 yr warranty (which I'd recommend ) maybe they'll let a handle go with it but the only kind I like is the solid one piece handle, if you use one enough you'll know why
Put a jack under one side and raise it to the desired height and put a jack stand under it, let the jack down just enough to put the weight on both the jack stand AND the jack. Then do the other side the same way (depending on what you'll be doing underneath it) NEVER trust a jack that is not secure
Good luck and happy hunting
