Hello to all! Sorry if my first post is bad haha but I have a 1989 2wd extended cab Ranger2.3 I got a 302 from a 89 grand merq with 60k miles and have a Holley carb I’ve rebuilt as well as a intake. I would like to use a T5 but am not sure what all I’d need. I’ve been doing research and making lists so I know what ALL I’d need to get it done right. I’m not knowledgeable on mounting the trans and what all smaller parts I’d need. Also I sold the stock trans and clutch pedal to a buddy so I’m not exactly sure what I’d need for that. If i use a t5 I’ll probably use a hydraulic kit for it. Any and all help is appreciated. I hope for the truck to be a mean mambajamba to daily but also shooting for around 300-400 hp :) but for now I’m just concerned with what all I’ll need thanks in advance!

make sure a carb will pass inspection in your state. 89 would have been fuel injected and if they do emissions in your area, sometimes even just a visual, switching from fuel injection to carb is a no-go.

Welcome to TRS :)

Full size truck manual transmissions usually have the shifter farther forward, so in a Ranger the shifter will hit the dash in 1, 3 and 5, but shifter arm can be heated and bent
Full size Car shifters are father back so in a Ranger it comes up at front of the seat, so awkward angle, but can be heated and bent

1997-2003 M5OD-R2(M5R2) manual from a 4.2l V6(F-150) has same bolt pattern as 302 and shifter is in the same place as Ranger's M5R1

Luckily I’m in Oklahoma hehehe thanks you for the heads up though will make sure to look into that still!

I saw that as a option as well the reason I’d like to use a t5 is cause eventually I’d like it to rip and I’ve seen a few members talk about how the m5 is for more of truck type of driving, but I’ve seen others that have had 0 issues at all I also hear about the upgraded trans of the m5 but can’t currently recall what it’s called.
