Is there a trick to getting the shift knob off the 5-speed shifter on a Bronco II??

I know from looking at the replacement shifter that it screws on, but this damn thing does not want to unscrew.

Never mind. Looked under the knob and can see splines. Put the box end of a ranch over the shift lever up against the knob, struck it with a mallet and it popped off.

Youll pry have to use some glue to get it to stay back on

Damn it. The old knob won't go on the new shifter. Took the shifter to the hardware store and it's a 1/2" - 13 course thread. All the knobs I find online are metric.

no problem, converts to metric 12.7mm x 1.9538 thread pitch

Thanks.

I found charts that say it converts to M12 x 1.75 and M14 x 2.00. No idea why different places give different info. I ordered a M12 x 1.75 knob for a 1979-2004 Mustang. Hopefully it works.

I end up using epoxy on all those shifter knobs.

I’ve just threaded knobs on right over the plastic splines from the pressed on shifter.
