My credo
Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.
I want to get a cool sounding muffler for my 4.0. I was on YouTube listening to a few types of mufflers and I liked these 2 mentioned so far. Did anyone here use these types of mufflers, and what would I need to do to upgrade it? Is it a direct replacement, and or do I need to cut any of my exhaust pipes to fit it in?

the two didn't attach. which are you liking?

i just found out some of the exhausts on the focus st and rs are made by borla. like it says ford and has the oval around it but than says borla in small letters underneath so i have to try and find one of those on craigslist or facebutt market for my son's car and one for the ranger.

Ill post the video in a few.

the other guys will have to answer. i cannot see some links here at work. uncle sam doesn't want people looking at cool stuff

I have "Street Flow" mufflers on both of my Explorers and my stepside truck. All 4.0 powered. They are very similar to the Flowmaster 40 series, NOT the 40 Series Delta Flow.

Pretty happy with them. They are much louder than stock but not anywhere near the obnoxiously loud sound level. They also do not have the typical V6 whining/droning sound.

You probably should have a muffler shop install it unless you are pretty comfortable cutting exhaust tube and either welding or clamping things. I built the exhaust systems on all my trucks at home and had to use different muffler models on each truck because of where the exhaust exits, the floor pan shape, axle location, etc. These mufflers are available in a bunch of different models with offset and center inlet/outlets and if you just have muffler shop do it, they can experiment with what fits best.

Think I'm going with Magnaflow. Better performance less air restriction. Probably better gas mileage than Flowmaster. Good points on this video enclosed.

i like magnaflow better than flowmaster. every loud annoying chevy in town has a flowmaster on it, here. its like everyone got together with their ragged ass vehicles and said lets get flowmaster

Does anybody know the pipe size for a stock 93 Ranger Muffler pipes. I'm looking to price now. And also the stock length of a 93 Ranger Muffler.
I have the 4.0 with a Cat.

Glass pack and straight pipe.

Personally don't like to wear earplugs when I'm driving so I don't advocate either Flowmaster or Magnaflow....lol

The oem muffler will be 22" long, no inlet pipe or outlet pipe as it is a welded system., pipe dia will be 2".

If you want something else that does have a bit of throat to it but it's not ridiculously noisy look at the Walker quiet-flow muffler for the mid 90's Chev Sonoma/S10/Cyclone Sport trucks. It is an 18" 2.5 in/2.5 out 409 stainless piece. The part # is 21405, when I redid my exhaust I used all 2.5" back from the rear cat, one can get the 409 stainless 2.5" Dynomax 55594 tailpipe readily from Walker as well. I had to fab the intermediate section between the cat & muffler. There is a Dynomax intermediate 2.5" available part# 52539. The muffler does produce a small bit of drone at 2000rpm, but because it IS the sport muffer it does so, I can live with it.

My hearing is not that great but I do remember a time when my duals with glass packs on my F150 was loud enough to be uncomfortable but my high schooler brain did not care much. The Flowmasters I have on my other vehicles are maybe half that loud, if that... wind noise on the highway is worse. My fiance and my kids do not complain about it and I have even asked if it bothers them and they say no so it must not be a big deal.

My 4 cylinder Ranger was straight piped with no cat for a short period of time and that was worse than just about anything I've owned. Especially if I was driving next to a fence or something with the rear window open... that nasty popping noise would bounce off the fence and right back into my ear.

Flowmaster vs. Magnaflow is like Republicans vs. Democrats.

Both want you to think theyre better than the other, but in reality they do the same damn thing... blow hot air.

Good info. I'll have to look into this.
