Hi, I have a 1999 ford ranger that has a slight weep from the transmission cooler.

I was just going to swap out the hose clamps for the springy kind, is this the best course of action? How much fluid should I expect to come out and is there anything I should be aware of?

I don't think the springy clamps will have enough stay power honestly.

Is there enough hose to trim it back to a fresh start?

Ensure there are flared ends on the cooler fittings... it really will prevent hose blow off.

Get yourself a couple new quality clamps...

Assuming 4r\5r Tranny?
Those ATF Hoses to the TransCooler are notorious for getting loose & leaking after >10years\100kMiles.
Do NOT use SpringClamps, too weak for ATF\Hydraulic applications.
Do NOT use CheapWormClamps off Ebay; they strip out & won't tighten.
Use quality WormClamps (Napa\Oreilly...) as UncleGump noted.
While there, best also replace those two ATF Hoses, as they look original & worn out,
from TransCooler down to BottomRight Channel of Radiator where they typically connect to stainless tubing.
Likely need to remove PlasticCover from bottom of Radiator to get at those Hose~Tubing connections.
Buy 8+ WormClamps & ~6ft of 3/8inch 10mm ID 200psiMin ATF\Hydraulic Hose; cut Hose into 2 lengths as needed.
Recommend 2 WormClamps/Connection * 4 Connections = 8 WormClamps total.
Flow direction thru TransCooler does not matter.
Do this work with Tranny+Engine cold; have DripPan & ShopTowel handy to catch roughly 1qt of ATF.
So need a fresh 1~2qt of MerconV to top off the ATF, after a 15min test drive, leak check, & level check.
