My credo
A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
Yeah, I was dropped on my head... by Friendly Ford in Las Vegas... :icon_twisted: Seriously though, most tranny things of interest (xfer case, shift motor, front driveshaft, clutch lines, clutch inspection port, etc.) are on the LEFT side of Ye Olde M5R1, and that's also the side I tend to slide under, SO... is this "curved-rectangle" supposed to have a long-ago disintegrated rubber plug in it, er wut?

Did no small amount of combing the manuals, don't see it called out there either... hmmm...

Thanks in advance!

Edit Title: Corn-fused driver and passenger side... "port" is on RIGHT side... dropped on mah HAY-ed!

No, it was probably not there before, and no it is no suppose to have a plug. You will find them open on older trucks and the idea besides it being easy to inspect, imo, it is to allow anything that makes it way into the housing to have an exit out. Including OIL, clutch dust, heat, water, muck, and small stones.

You forgot small rodents and lizards.

You forgot small rodents and lizards.

And lions, tigers and bears, oh my!

Seems I've seen that hole mentioned as a ventilation hole in some of the factory manuals.

Yeah, that's it; that's the ticket. It's a CAI for the clutch.

No, it's too high up for oil or any liquids to drain out... but I am worried 'bout the small lizards thaaang, as we have chameleons all over the place down here.

It was late in the day when I spotted it, and did not have my flashlight or mirror with me, to "see what can be seen", but in some tear-down pics it appears there's some kind of baffle there(?), so NOT a visual inspection port...?

You're heard of the VTEC for Hondas (Very Tall Engine Cooling)

That's a SPEC for Ford. (Special Port Exhaust Curve).

I dunno; I think that it's just a HOLE (Heat Or Lubricant Exit).

I think we're on to something here... like slotted brake rotors, this "port" lets clutch-flywheel heat escape for less "fade" during the blazing 1/4 mile times The Fearless Ranger is known for! We should probably keep this little speed-secret under wraps soze the air-cooled VW guys don't start besting us at the drag strip. :sneaky:

That's a speed hole, makes the car go faster.

I always figured it was a air circulation/cooling hole. My 2011 has it as well.

The young me would shoot brake cleaner in there while crawling around under my truck for fun/ pre street race and or going romping prep....sometimes I miss the days when a 14 second quarter mile was fast, and 4" of travel was prerunner worthy....
