Most of the time they simultaneously don't work. The fuses seem to be ok. Can anyone give some advice on what to check?

Thanks for the pictureHere's what you're looking for. See the gap between the plastic and metal on the switch? If yours has this, it'll cause what you describe. You can replace it, or put a tie wrap around it (like in the picture), which is still working as a repair in my '84.
This is kind of common in these old trucks, so start there. If that's it, great. If not, at least that's eliminated as the problem.

Thanks, I should have been more careful yesterday. I dropped a light weight aluminum pole and it broke my vinyl sidingYIKES! Go easy on pulling trim and poking around; old plastic is even more brittle when it's that cold.
