A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
A regular cab, 7 ft box V6 (preferably 4.0) 4wd ranger in the later model years?

Good luck finding one...

Build it...

Better yet, build a longbed supercab 4.0 or 302 V8 4wd. Ive only ever seen 2, this one was posted here. Ive always thought about building one but it seemed like a lot of effort to only gain 1ft of bed length.

I've seen a few- darn few because people figured out how cramped a regular cab is. In the last few years most all our 4x4's were Supercabs and we'd have a handful of regular cab short box trucks for stock. I've never seen a long box Supercab and don't believe Ford built any. The regular cabs only came with 3.0's so they weren't popular- lack of low RPM torque + an overdrive transmission + NH hills = a barking dog.

Ive seen one of those builds. They really look good IMO.

They made long beds later than a guy would think. Not sure if about 4wd or engines.

Oddly enough my mechanic buddy claims to have encountered 3 or 4 supercab long beds around here, most in junkyards. I have yet to encounter one in person

I ran across an 05 long bed 2wd reg cab with a 5sp and 69k mi for 6995. Super clean truck but i want a 4x4 and it had a 3.0....

Im not ready to buy yet. Ive been thinking for years about replacing my 97 but im cant see dishing out the kind of money they want for a used superduty, plus mines pretty low miles (115k) and really only moves when i go distance or have heavy shit to move. If i bought a new one id be basically paying 500/mo for a shinr driveway ornament id never use for the stuff i use the 97 for cause id be afraid to scratch it.

Im not even sure if id buy another ranger as a DD, just want something 4wd, somewhat cheap, decent (20mpgish) on fuel and can tote a quad around.

EDIT

and thats not a maverick.
