2.9 intermittent spark from coil!!?

My money on still on the tfi.

Unless it's Motorcraft, it's probably broken.

Went through 5-6 of them before someone gave me a Motorcraft one.

Haven't had to replace it since.

When buying parts, sometimes the only new thing is the box.

Also, I'm 2 for 2 with eBay reman ECUs being bad out of the box. They're utter trash.

TFI or Pick-up coil is likely bad.

If it starts and has good constant fire with the SPOUT disconnected, but won't run with it connected, or it runs but cuts out under load at higher speeds/RPM's (50% to 75% throttle or so), then the PIP (pick-up coil) is on it's way out.

They should be replaced as a pair ideally, because one can take out the other, or introduce a fault internally.

You can run tests on this to determine which unit is bad. I'm not 100% about this applying perfectly to your truck, but I'm thinking it does..

I've linked to this video at a certain time stamp, because it was the meat and potatoes that I needed for testing. But you should probably start at the beginning and soak up all of the info.

If you replace the TFI, I do recommend spending more for a Motorcraft, and also relocating the TFI to a cooler location. There are instructions here on TheRangerStation on how to do that.
