Mystery leak, gross wet carpet

I got water leaking into my 90 ranger I cant find where its coming from. Its collecting on the pass side and driver side floors fml.... I already checked the door seals doeant appear to be coming from there it does it when sitting in a mild rain storm.

Probably the molding isn't wet at the back of the carpet have to wait for the rain to stop

Happened on my 87. It turned out to be the seam below the bottom corners of the windshield, underneath the molding. Clean out the old seam sealer with a Dremel Tool and liberally squirt in new, high quality seam sealer. Spray remaining bare metal with paint, etc.

There are two covers on the engine side of the firewall, could be silver but on your era they should be painted black. Remove them and made sure the cowl drains on the outside ends of the cowl are clear. Clear to sides towards the fenders. Also check for rust in there. The drains get plugged, it sits full of water and rots out the bottom of the cowl and water leaks into the cab from somewhere under the dash.

My 87 leaks just like that.

Check for rot holes at the bottom edges of the cowl on the driver and passenger sides. On the bottom corners.

I stuck some cheap ass house window sealant on it and it stayed dry untill the engine heat got to it. Thinking a more permanent fix with expoxy steel is in order.

If that has happened, and I'm working to repair that... What should you do? I've cleaned out the cowl drain as best as I could. I'm going to get some seam sealer. But I'm worried rain is coming through the vents and then into the car through the dash. Is the only way to remedy this to pull the dash?

If you can't fix it thru the access holes that is about your only other option. Be advised you may have to patch bigger holes than seam sealer can fix.

I don't think a second gen dash is too terrible to pull FWIW.

Not really difficult just time consuming that dash in there now is from a 89 stx the old one was really bad and brownish yellow so I switched the whole interior in from a wrecked 89 stx (red) Im probably gonna pull the dash out again and look for one that isn't cracked now. When I build a new harness and steup for air conditioning
