Identify this thin pipe under pedals

Hello!
I have photographed this tube under cabin pedals and would like to know what this pipe is. Mine is a 2004 3L v6. The picture was shot from underneath looking at the front drivers wheel.

[ Could you point the path to the pcv valve or camshaft cover plz?]

Ok. Transmission vent tube. Could you tell me where this is relative to the pcv valve?
[ 3L 2004 v6] I have checked YouTube and searched the vacuum tubes? Is the camshaft cover close to this picture?

Is the pcv valve not on top of a valve cover on that engine? That's the most common place - the highest part of the engine that contains crank case vapors.

The 3.0 Vulcan doesn't have a camshaft cover. It has valve covers. The cam goes through the middle of the block and thus needs no cover.

PCV valve is hard to see, but should be in the driver's side valve cover under the over-hanging part of the intake manifold.

Thx for the help. But "Vulcan"? This is a 2004 v6 3.0L engine The one useful YouTube video I saw showed pcv valve outside the intake manifold on the driver's side. It was blue colored hence the picture.

to make sure we are all on the same page, what vehicle are you referring to? a 2004 Ranger, right?

friendly FYI, PCV is Positive Crankcase Ventilation. searching for "vacuum" will send you down the wrong path.

"Vulcan" is the family name for the old style overhead valve 3.0L V6 engine used in many Ford products starting about 1986/1987
it was used in Rangers well into the 2000's

don't confuse it with the 3.0 Duratec dual overhead cam 3.0L V6,,,which has ,,,,,,cam covers.

Not sure what that hose it, be a very odd place to have a hose hanging down, especially 5R44E(transmission) Vent hose, and with 2 90deg bends?

The video and diagram contradict each other.
Remember this is a 2004 3L Ford ranger.
There was apparently a revision in the pcv valve for this model year. The 3L and 4L pcv valves are VERY different.

they are both 3.0L engines. the diagram is an older engine with a cast aluminum intake manifold. ( and a lot of "other stuff" not shown)
both my 2000 Ranger and 87 Taurus had this style.
the video is a 2002 with plastic/composite intake manifold.

the 2004 is different from both of those.
in the video he never shows the actual hole the PCV plugs into, it's down in the dark area, about where it is in the diagram.

(the hoses wrapped around the PCV in the video are coolant lines. they wrap around the PCV and keep it hot so it doesn't gum up. has nothing to do with the actual PCV function. part of the video shows where the hoses originate at the coolant lines.,,,2002, not applicable to 2004,,maybe)

a PCV is a way to vent crankcase vapors from the crankcase to the intake manifold, so it's attached to a hose/s that goes between the two.


this is the NAPA listings for it, there are 2 versions: heated or non-heated, with electricity, not coolant. on both one end connects to a hose, the other end has a twist-lock groove. that should go into the engine.

The "gold" end goes into the valve cover as seen in diagram above, the small hose wrapped around the valve is a heater, you may or may not have this depending on where the Ranger was originally sold, the heater is for colder climates
